In a 10-team region, one single loss can loom large when it comes to chasing down one of four state tournament berths.
For that reason, a strong start within region play is important for the Lady Greyhounds, who host perennial region frontrunner Union Grove next Tuesday.
Jones County got off to a strong start in Friday’s season opener at Hampton, posting a 5-0 shutout win, improving to 5-1 overall on the season. All five of Jones County’s wins so far have been via shutout with an average of 6.2 goals scored per game.
Hounds drop region opener
The Greyhounds began region play last Friday on the road, losing 7-1 to Hampton.
Jones County, which hosts Union Grove next Tuesday, did come away from Friday with a block of momentum to stand on. In getting on the board against the Hornets, the Greyhounds exceeded their scoring output from their other four defeats so far this season.
