When the Lady Greyhounds host Stockbridge on Friday, the matchup of two top-10 teams will give JCHS the chance to widen its current one-game lead atop region standings.
Before that time arrives, however, there’s a bit of business to take care of for the Lady Greyhounds. JCHS did that in style last week, taking games against Eagles Landing, Locust Grove and Veterans to run its record to 17-1 overall and 11-0 in the region.
The Lady Greyhounds have now won 16 in a row entering this week.

“Our goal is to go game-by-game because any team can beat you on any given day,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Takeo Gray said.
Jones County began the week with a 68-47 win against Eagles Landing prior to a 49-43 victory against Veterans, one night after a 70-19 Friday pasting of Locust Grove.
Both region wins saw the Lady Hounds move toward putting the game away in the second quarter.
Against Eagles Landing, JCHS led 14-11 before seizing at 31-21 halftime advantage prior to pouring in 24 points in the third quarter alone. Mya Anderson led Jones County all over the floor, having a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds along with seven assists, four steals and two blocked shots.
Kamiyah Adams added 11 points and six rebounds with 10 points and seven rebounds from Liberty Pennamon and eight points and two steals from Autumn Coleman.
Kynnidi Houston chipped in seven points.
Friday’s win against Locust Grove was even more explosive against a greatly outmatched Wildcats team with just five players. Despite this, Locust Grove hung close early, trailing only 17-9 after a quarter.
“We didn’t come out with the intensity that we wanted,” Gray said. “I challenged them to step it up and play toward what we wanted to do.”
JCHS emerged out of those early doldrums, wearing down Locust Grove on both ends of the floor. In the second quarter, Jones County drained three of their five three pointers for the game, each of them coming via Norris, Desirae Dumas and Anderson.
“That picked up our energy,” Gray said. “That, and the crowd being big into it was huge for us.”
The result was a 46-15 halftime lead, allowing the Lady Greyhounds coaches to rest starters in the second half en route to the 70-19 win.
Anderson’s 13 points led the way with ten from Dumas and nine each from Adams and Aubrey Norris.
