Lady Hounds embracing role as region’s outcast

The Lady Greyhounds will accelerate towards their shot at repeating as region champions this week. With a win in Wednesday’s semifinals, they’ll advance to Friday’s girls tournament championship. But to do so, Jones County won’t just be facing opponents but also the dislike of an entire county.

‘Mudita’: Lady Hounds taking new approach in quest for region title

Try as she may, it’s hard for Lady Greyhounds head coach Mikayla Coley to bury the memory of a season ago, when a single overtime separated Jones County from being a region champion. But it went deeper than that a season ago for the Lady Greyhounds. Of their six losses, three were in overtime.

CRMS girls take second in league tourney

Clifton Ridge Middle School concluded its season with a strong push into the postseason. The Cougars fell 37-26 to Upson Lee in last week’s MGMSAL tournament title game, finishing as conference runner-up. CRMS opened the postseason in dominant fashion, routing Monroe County 43-12.

Bodnarchuk named GACA all-state

The Volley Hounds have an all-state selection, as the recent Georgia Athletic Coaches Association all state selections included Isabella Bodnarchuk. Bodnarchuk was the Lady Greyhounds’ defensive player of the year last season, being credited with 400 good digs.

With seeding no longer a question for the Lady Greyhounds, the task at hand to close out the regular season is to finish strong before the region tournament, in which Jones County will begin play in next week’s later rounds.

Quartet of grapplers win region titles

Four others bound for sectionalsWith a home crowd cheering them on, eight Greyhounds wrestlers punched their tickets to the next round of the postseason. As if that were not enough, four Jones County grapplers claimed region titles in Friday’s Region 2-AAAA Tournament at the JCHS Gymnasium.
