Before dawn on Monday morning, the sun had already risen on the preseason window of practice for the Greyhounds.Less than two weeks before an Aug. 9 preseason scrimmage against Mary Persons, Jones County took the field on Monday on the first day that teams are permitted to practice in full pads.

There’ll be a new way for cross country to qualify for the GHSA state meet this year, and that path will literally run directly through Jones County.In previous years, the top four teams from each region qualified for state.

Since starting the school’s volleyball program in 2020, the Lady Greyhounds have improved each season.The next step on that path begins soon for the Volley Hounds, who open the season Aug. 6 at Mary Persons with the first home match scheduled for Aug. 13 against Houston County.
