The GHSA postseason being determined by a power-ranking system rather than region placement has resulted in the Lady Greyhounds playing at home in the softball postseason for the first time in four years.
Jones County opens the state tournament on Wednesday at home against Madison County in a best-of-three series. The two teams will play a Wednesday doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. with the 'if-necessary' game at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
With a record of 19-7, the Lady Hounds enter the postseason as the overall No. 12 seed. They will face a Madison County team that is seeded 21st overall. The Red Raiders finished fourth in a region that includes North Oconee, seeded sixth overall, and Jefferson, which enters the postseason 13th overall. By contrast, the top two teams from the Lady Greyhounds region, Perry and Ola, enter the playoffs seeded 11th and 16th.
The winner of this week's series plays either fifth-seeded Central Carrollton or 28th-seeded Mays in next Wednesday and Thursday's second-round series that will determine a berth in the state's Elite 8 in Columbus.
