17-year-old indicted for dangerous prank at high school

A dangerous prank by Jones County High School students led to arrests of the juveniles and the indictment of the 17-year-old involved.

Khallid Aqeel Muhammad was indicted by a Jones County Grand Jury June 28 for three counts of aggravated assault. The charges stem from events that took place March 9.

A report of the incident by Gray Police Department Lt. Jacob Hunnicutt stated said he was in the high school parking lot when he was approached by the mother of a student who was shot in the face by what she thought was a BB gun.

Hunnicutt said he escorted the mother and student to the front office. Another student who had also been a victim was with them. The students told the officer that a white Dodge Challenger occupied by three male students pulled up next to them and began shooting a splatter gun at them.

One of the students was hit under his right eye, leaving red marks. The other was hit above her right eye, causing a small knot that was swollen and red in color.

The lieutenant said he made contact with JCHS Principal Lance Rackley. He said they and other school administrators viewed school security camera footage. The video showed the white Dodge SUV back out of the parking space and pull next to the weight room.

Hunnicutt said the driver’s right window was down, and the rear driver’s side window was down. He said it appeared both the driver and back seat passenger had an object in their hands. The video showed the male standing by the SUV turn away. The SUV then pulls forward toward the practice field, and the two victims could be seen quickly ducking and turning away from the SUV.

The lieutenant said, with the help of the school administrators, the three individuals in the SUV were identified. Two juveniles involved were referred to juvenile intake, and Hunnicut said he contacted Magistrate Court. He said a warrant for aggravated assault was issued for Muhammad.

The JCHS parking lot was checked for evidence by GPD Capt. Eric Maynard, and beads from the splatter gun were collected.

The two juveniles, accompanied by their parents, and Muhammad were picked up and transported to the Gray Police Department.

The splatter gun used in the incident was owned by one of juveniles and was taken into custody. Following the interviews at the Gray Police Department, the two juveniles were taken to the Macon RYDC and Muhammad to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center.
