Sheriff’s office hosts
The Jones County Sheriff’s Office 2026 Summer Camp was another huge success with a combination of safety education and a look into law enforcement techniques combined with summer fun and activities.
The camp took place at the Jones County Law Enforcement Center June 1–5 with 61 campers. Camp coordinator Brittani Marks, who is the administrative coordinator for the JCSO, said 10 employees helped with the camp every day and another 10 popped in and out as needed.
Marks added the camp staff included five teen volunteers who were a huge help.
She said all campers went home with a special JCSO Bluey Challenge Coin specially made for the camp, a T-shirt and Jones County Law Enforcement Foundation backpack.
Those chosen as Campers of the Day received $20 gift cards with candy bags. The Campers of the Week received $50 gift cards, candy bags and a plush toy.
Marks said Monday and Tuesday were learning days and field days. Campers learned about 911 education, cyber safety, fingerprinting, hand molds, drones, K-9s, MRAP, and other investigation techniques.
Wednesday, they took a field trip to the Museum of Arts and Science followed by another field trip Thursday to go bowling.
Marks said Friday started with a tour of the Jones County Courthouse, including a guided tours of the courtrooms by Capt. Ed Bailey, who also taught them about basic first aid.
Friday ended with water slides and more fun, including a ride on the JSCO Express.
“None of this would have been possible without our amazing sponsors,” the coordinator said.
Marks said the entire week was wonderful, but her overall favorite memory is riding the bus to the field trips.
“We played music for the kids, and the bus turned into a karaoke/dance party,” she said. “It was so much fun.”
She said it was great just getting to know the campers.
“We truly had such an amazing group of kids who will be missed.”
