A Milledgeville man lost his life last weekend after being thrown from a side-by-side after losing control of the vehicle on a dirt road.
Jordan Dewayne Norville, 40, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident by Jones County Deputy Coroner Wayne Grier.
A report of the fatal accident by Jones County Sheriff’s Cpl. Dan Riberio stated he was dispatched to Stallings and Ellis Church roads at 7:30 p.m. April 3 in reference to an accident with injuries.
Riberio said when he arrived, he saw an off-road vehicle on its side. He said Grier, who was first on the scene, was there with a female victim who was suffering from what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder.
The vehicle was listed on the report as a 2023 Polaris Ranger.
The corporal said the male subject, identified as Norville, was laying in the grass and was not breathing. He said the victim was moved to the road and CPR attempted, but it was not successful.
The female passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Riberio said tire marks at the scene indicted the driver came around a curve at a high rate of speed and lost control. He said a rear tire struck a mound of dirt, causing Norville, who was not wearing a seatbelt, to be thrown from the vehicle.
The officer said pictures obtained from the scene show the driver’s seat belt clicked to bypass the safety sensor to allow the machine to operate without the seatbelt being worn.
