Board of Education Chair Ginger Bailey was elected to a fifth term Tuesday night, defeating challenger Marilyn Norfleet in the nonpartisan contest 3,523 to 2,132. Two other members of the board were up for re-election but were not opposed, meaning leadership is set to stay the same until 2029.
Most other races mirror statewide results, but in Jones County, Lt. Gov Burt Jones (no relation) nearly met the 50% threshold, performing better than the statewide figures. Jones served as a state senator representing Jones County prior to his run for the state's second-highest post.
Results are unofficial until certified by the Secretary of State. Brad Raffensperger, who currently holds that position, was one of more than a dozen who ran for governor.
