Bond was denied a Jones County man in Superior Court last week, facing charges of aggravated child molestation spanning more than a decade.
Robert Davis Andrews, 62, was in court April 30 seeking bond, represented by public defender Keri Thompson.
Andrews was arrested Jan. 17 and has been incarcerated since his arrest.
He was indicted by a Jones County Grand Jury Feb. 12 on two charges of aggravated child molestation.
Assistant District Attorney Cara Fiore prosecuted the case, which was before Chief Superior Court Judge Alison Burleson.
Fiore said the victim of the offense was a family member who is now having mental health issues. The molestation was disclosed during a therapy session at a mental health facility. It is alleged the victim had been molested by Andrews since age five. The complainant is currently 16.
The prosecutor said the victim was taken to the Crescent House and interviewed after the disclosure.
Thompson said Andrews denies the charges and requested a reasonable bond. She added he is a Jones County resident and has no criminal history other than a family violence charge in 2007.
The attorney said there would not be a trial until summer, and there is no reason to believe Andrews would be a flight risk. She went on to say he is not a risk to commit another felony.
Fiore did not agree. She said the defendant lives with the victim’s caretaker.
Thompson said those issues could be satisfied by bond conditions.
After listening to the arguments by the prosecutor and defense, Burleson agreed she did not find Andrews was a flight risk.
The judge said, however, she could not say there was no risk he would commit another felony. The bond order also listed the defendant poses a significant threat or danger to another person, to the community or property in the community pending a trial.
