Cameras alert deputies to car with accused murderer

CRIME WATCH

A flock camera alert for vehicle violations resulted in the arrest of a suspect wanted in a Bibb County murder case who was a passenger in the car.

Terrial Deshon Dean Jr., 21, was turned over to Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Oct. 1 at the scene of traffic stop on Joycliff Road. A report from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office states Dean is wanted for murder in connection with the death of 30-year-old Roberts Evans that took place Aug. 20.

That shooting occurred just after 4 a.m. in Macon, and it was reported that a second man was also hit by gunfire. Dean is charged with murder and does not have a bond.

The report of Jones County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kasey Carr stated he was on routine patrol Oct. 1 when he was alerted to a flock hit for a black Dodge Challenger on Millerfield Road. The alert was due to the vehicle having no insurance and a suspended registration.

Carr located the Challenger on Joycliff Road and conducted a traffic stop. The officer said the driver identified himself as the car’s registered owner, Shamarquis Dean, and admitted his insurance had expired.

The sergeant said, while he was speaking with the driver, he noticed the unusual behavior of the passenger. He said the passenger would not look at him and his left hand was shaking uncontrollably. Carr also noticed a Glock pistol located between the driver’s seat and center console.

The officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle and retrieved the firearm.

Carr said he asked the passenger for his information, and he identified himself as Terrial Dean. The sergeant said JCSO Deputy Jarrod Elrod arrived to assist, and he asked the deputy to stand by the passenger door due to the behavior of Terrial Dean. The officer then went back to his vehicle to run computer checks on the driver and passenger.

Carr said, when his check of Terrial Dean came back that he was wanted for murder in Bibb County, he exited his vehicle and advised Elrod to use caution.

Carr said he approached the passenger door and asked the passenger to get out and put his hands on the top of the vehicle. The sergeant said Dean exited the vehicle and began to resist as soon as he attempted to grab the suspect’s arm.

Carr said Dean was taken to the ground and handcuffed with the assistance of Elrod. The sergeant said, when Deputy Jeffrey Robinson arrived at the scene, the suspect was placed in the rear seat of his patrol car.

Carr said he notified dispatch that Terrial Dean was in custody and confirmed the murder warrant. He said he also informed Shamarquis Dean that he was under arrest for driving with no insurance.

He said Bibb County was contacted that Terrial Dean was in custody. Two BCSO units responded to the scene, and the suspect was turned over to them.

Carr said he inventoried the Challenger and logged the Glock into evidence at the Jones County Law Enforcement Center. Shamarquis Dean was turned over to booking.
