Christmas comes to the Jones County Library

LOCAL LITEARCY

The Jones County Public Library is ready for patrons this holiday season with displays, activities and events to get everyone in Jones County into the Christmas spirit.

Julie King, the branch manager at the Jones County Library, said she’s excited for the holiday season at the library, because there is so much to do, plus she loves this time of year.

“It is a Christmas wonderland here at the Jones County Library. We have all of our displays that people need to come see,” she said. “We have Christmas crafts coming up, so the week kids are out of school we will be doing bingo and crafts. This is a fun and exciting time here.” She said Santa Pete will be visiting the library on Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. She said that’s for ages zero through five years old. She said a lot will be going on that day, so people should come to the library.

The branch manager said they will show a Christmas movie Dec. 15, and they will have their teen program Dec. 16, where they will decorate Christmas cookies baked as sweaters. She said they will also be wearing ugly Christmas sweaters and watch a movie that day.

“From the time the kids get out of school until the new year, we will pretty much have something going on each day. There will be a lot of activities going on, so we’ll always have something for people to do,” the branch manager said.

King said children can send letters to Santa through the library to get to the North Pole. She said they have supplies out for that, so she hopes to see more children come in before Christmas to write their letters.

“We love the season, and the kids will be out of school. We enjoy creating a place for them to come during their time away from school. We want kids to love to read and want to read. They can come here to keep up with their reading during the holiday season,” King said.

She said she loves the Christmas season, because it’s the birth of Jesus Christ and it’s the giving season. She said everyone is so kind when they visit the library. She said this time of year brings out the joy in people.

“There’s so many Christmas stories people can read this holiday. If families are looking for something to do this Christmas season, they can sit down together and read a book,” the manager said. “It’s a great bonding experience and a way to bring that love of reading.”
