City awaits news on funds from DOT

CITY OF GRAY

Gray’s City Council members wrapped up their monthly business meeting in five minutes on the eve of Tuesday’s election.

Mayor Ed Barbee called the Nov. 3 meeting to order and led the opening prayer. Councilman David Tufts led the pledge.

In his mayor’s report, Barbee said he received a letter from the Georgia Department of Transportation informing him the city’s funding request had been received. He said the application for the funding had been completed by the Middle Georgia Regional Commission.

The funding was requested to help fund the paving and maintenance of the former state routes, now the responsibility of the city, and for more sidewalks.

The letter said the city had been assigned a number, and the request would be reviewed in 60 days. Notification of the outcome is expected in the Spring.

The only item of New Business was the resolution approving the city’s 2026 water and sewer budget in the amount of $2,934,900. City Superintendent Cheyenne Morgan presented the budget to council members, and it was discussed at the Oct. 20 committee meeting.

One notable item on the budget is the estimated purchase of water from the Jones County Water System at the cost of $575,000.

The motion to approve the resolution was made by Finance Committee Chairman Councilman Terrell Fulford. The motion passed unanimously.

There were no public comments. Mayor Pro Tem James Collins asked for consent of council to hold future committee meetings at the Gray/Jones County Business Development Center. He said the space and technology available there is a plus for the meetings.

The committee meetings were previously held in the conference room at City Hall.

Council members agreed by consensus to the change, and the meeting was adjourned.
