City council candidates to answer questions at forum

ELECTION 2025

Next week’s election forum for the City of Gray is an opportunity for voters to meet and ask questions of candidates in the Nov. 4 election and an opportunity for the candidates to meet and interact with each other and their constituents.

The forum will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Butler Hall. The event will start at 6:30 p.m., and the question-and-answer portion will be moderated by William Mathews. The forum will be live streamed on the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce Facebook page for those who are unable to attend in person.

All questions will be submitted in writing. The questions can be brought to the Forum by attendees or written there before it begins. Paper and pencils will be furnished at the event. Questions may also be submitted any time before the forum via email at jonescochamber@jonescounty.org.

The written questions will be brought to Mathews at the start of the forum, and attendees will also have the option of submitting more questions during the event. All questions will be presented to the candidates by Mathews.

All candidates for the four contested races were personally invited to participate in the forum. Those candidates are District 1 incumbent David Tufts and challenger Rick Tipton; District 2 candidates Lehman Wood and Ikea Simmons; District 3 incumbent Terrell Fulford and challenger Natalie Lurie; and District 4 incumbent Terry Favors and challenger Billy Horne.

The contest is the first for political newcomers Simmons, Lurie and Horne.

Gray Mayor Ed Barbee and Mayor Pro Tem James Collins are not opposed in the Nov. 4 Election.

The event is sponsored by the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Gray, the Jones County Republican Party and The Jones County News.
