SEASON OF GIVING – AND DELIVERING
One of Gray’s City Council members really goes above and beyond to deliver for people in the city over the holidays, especially for the last four years.
Terry Favors has been delivering packages for UPS since 2019, and it works out well because it is at times when his tax office business is slow. He said he calls the part-time job the three 10s.
“It’s a 10-week gig, I always lose 10 pounds and I make over 10 grand,” he said.
Favors said he usually works under 40 hours a week, and the biggest one-week check he has received was $1,433. He said the job is good exercise.
“My saying is I’m going to the gym every day and getting paid,” he said.
Favors said he enjoys seeing his constituents while he’s out delivering, and most know him as a city councilman. He said he thinks the job has other benefits.
“I’ve noticed my brain functions and memory improve greatly while I’m working this gig,” Favors said.
He said UPS shuttles the packages to an unadvertised location nearby for him so everything he delivers is relatively close to home. Favors said he and another local part-time person cover the city, but if they get overwhelmed, the regular drivers always offer to help.
“They’re a bunch of great guys,” he said.
Favors said it took him a couple of years to get hired for the holiday delivery position, but he just kept applying.
“It’s perfect for me because it’s over by the time my tax office reopens,” he said.
The councilman said he recently turned 66, and he is glad to have something to keep him moving. He said his daughter asked him why he keeps delivering packages.
“So I can get you Christmas presents,” Favors replied.
