Contraband of ‘Grizzly’ nature found in trash can

The attempt to pass prohibited items to Jones County inmates is an ongoing issue that appears to center around an outside trash can.

A report by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Crystal Murphy describes one of the more curious attempts. Murphy said she was made aware of a contraband drop June 21 by Lt. Brent Skinner, which involved both packages of tobacco and cans of chewing tobacco. The packages had been dropped in the trash can by the front door of the Jones County Law Enforcement Center.

The trash can and surrounding corner area is a popular spot for contraband attempts and is regularly checked by JCSO personnel.

The investigator said she contacted IT officer Deputy Jason Douglas and asked him to pull the video footage from the front lobby for June 19-20 to see if a person was caught on the surveillance camera that monitors the area 24/7.

She said Douglas located a female throwing a black plastic bag into the trash can Sunday, June 19, at 10:05 a.m. The female then went inside the lobby for visitation with an inmate, Todd Kohlmayer.

The female who dropped the bag into the trash can was identified as Kristina Jolene Perkins of Milledgeville. Murphy said, during the visitation, Perkins repeatedly tells Kohlmayer a story. Perkins said that she had seen two grizzly bears sitting on top of two piles of leaves.

The first few times Perkins repeats the story, Kohlmayer looks confused. Murphy said the inmate eventually seems to understand and asked if everything was in order.

Perkins responded that it was but then continued to repeat the story of the grizzly bears on the leaves.

Murphy said, when she received the bag of contraband, it contained two cans of Grizzly brand tobacco and two package of Kite brand tobacco. The investigator said the items were seized as evidence and warrants secured for Perkins for providing prohibited items to inmates.

Although not always as entertaining, the same process is followed each time contraband is found in and around the trash can and the offenders are prosecuted.
