The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Sept. 29 – Oct. 2, 2024
Sept. 29
Unknown subject
Deputy Elrod was dispatched to a local business in reference to shoplifting. The business manager advised that a male subject had stolen some items and ran out into the woods.
Upon arrival, Elrod checked the area for a male subject possibly carrying the stolen items. Negative contact was made with any subject. The deputy then met with the business manager and was advised that the male subject had some diapers and various other household items in his hands and ran out into the woods. Elrod reviewed the security camera footage and saw a male subject wearing a brown jacket, light color blue jeans, black in color shoes, a black and tan Richardson style hat and carrying a black book bag. The footage shows the male subject running out of the business with a box of diapers and various other items in his hands. It is unknown at the time who the male subject is and how much quantifiable cost of what he stole was.
Wanted for simple battery
Deputy Shurley was on routine patrol on GA Hwy. 57 when he ran the tag information on a vehicle to check for valid registration. The check of the vehicle came back to show the registered owner of the vehicle had an active warrant out of Jones County for simple battery under family violence.
At that time, Shurley conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. When Shurley made contact with the male driver he requested the subject’s driver’s license and was able to identify the male as the registered owner. The deputy asked the male to step out of the vehicle and the subject complied and was placed in handcuffs. Jones County Dispatch confirmed the warrant. The male subject was transported to the Jones County LEC and turned over to jail staff for processing.
Wanted subject found
Deputy Shurley was informed that a wanted subject out of Bibb County was located in Jones County. The subject had active warrants out of Bibb County.
Deputy Shurley and Deputy Elrod went in route to the location given for the subject. Once at the residence, Shurley knocked on the front door while Elrod covered the back entrance. While knocking on the door, Shurley noticed the blinds in the window moving at which time he waved at whoever it was, acknowledging that he had seen them.
At that time, Shurley heard a male’s voice and then he heard Deputy Elrod giving loud verbal commands, “let me see your hands.” An unidentified female was at the opened front door. Shurley stepped just inside the doorway and immediately identified the male as the wanted subject. The male was placed under arrest with his hands behind his back then escorted out of the home due to him being very irate. The male kept wanting to argue about the charges.
The deputies told the male they had no control other than the fact that they were there on behalf of Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Bibb County arrived on scene and the male subject was turned over to them and transferred to the Bibb County jail.
