The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Oct. 20-23, 2024.
Oct. 20
Traffic stop leads to arrest
Deputy Langston was patrolling the area of Gray Highway and Greenwood when he observed a vehicle with no tag light. Langston conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the male driver and identified him. Langston ran the subject’s information through the NCIC system, and it came back to show the male had an active warrant out of Baldwin County. At that time, the male subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Baldwin County line and turned over to a Baldwin County deputy.
Oct. 21
Stolen vehicle
Deputy Johnson was alerted to a possible stolen vehicle from a local business. Johnson met with the complainant that advised he was traveling down I-75 and noticed a vehicle on the side of the road that looked a lot like one of the company vehicles that he drives at work.
The complainant advised Johnson he then drove to the business to check on the vehicle. Johnson had Bibb County recover the vehicle and have it towed to the Jones County LEC to be held as evidence.
Johnson and the complainant went to where the company vehicles were parked at the business. The complainant advised there was indeed a vehicle missing. The deputy, along with a couple of the employees of the business, noticed a side door to the business open.
They entered the shop and noticed several toolboxes open, and the locks had been cut. There was a large pair of bolt cutters which could have been used to cut the locks. There was also two roll up doors in the back of the business that were open and a welding trailer in the back of the shop had been gone through. Johnson advised the employees to make a list of the items that were missing and turn it over to investigators.
Johnson was also advised that there should be camera footage of the business, but the assistant manager would be the only one able to pull the cameras and that would be done the next day. Johnson then informed Captain Allen of the findings and Allen advised he would be following up at the business. Johnson took pictures of the general area of the business and turned them over to Investigation for follow up.
Oct. 23
Subject in custody
Deputy Johnson was dispatched to the corner of Gray Highway and Joycliff Road in reference to a male subject in custody that had a valid warrant out of Jones County. Upon Johnson’s arrival, the deputy made contact with SERFTF members, and they turned the male subject over to the deputy. At that time, Johnson conducted a search of the male subject and found a large sum of cash and coins in his front pocket. Also in the same pocket were two .35 caliber Smith and Wesson rounds. The rounds were turned over to the SERFTF officers and the money was placed back in the male subject’s pocket. Johnson transported the male to the Jones County LEC and turned him over to jail staff for processing.
