The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Nov. 8-9, 2024.
Nov. 8
Probation violation
Sgt. Humphries responded to a call from a resident that stated he was hearing people on his front and back porch. When Humphries arrived on scene, there was no one found outside the home. The male resident advised the sergeant that he heard the individuals talking and heard their footsteps. The resident also stated that his dogs were at the door barking. While checking the address history of the resident, Humphries ran the male’s information through the GCIC system and discovered the male had an outstanding warrant for probation violation in Dawson County. The male advised Humphries that he was aware of the warrant. The sergeant had dispatch confirm the warrant out of Dawson County and they placed a hold on the male. The subject was arrested and transported to the Jones County LEC to await pickup.
Expired tag and warrant person
Sgt. Walker was monitoring traffic when he ran a license plate check on a vehicle. Walker received an alert on the vehicle that it had an expired tag. Walker was able to catch up to the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The sergeant made contact with the male driver and male passenger.
The male driver advised Walker that he did not have a driver’s license and the vehicle he was driving belonged to his boss, and he was not aware of the registration status of the vehicle.
Walker found out that the male passenger was wanted out of Bibb County. The sergeant asked both male subjects if there were any weapons inside the vehicle.
The driver advised Walker that there was a firearm inside the passenger door, and it belonged to him. Both subjects were placed under arrest and taken to the Jones County LEC. The driver was issued a citation for driving while unlicensed and a warning to give his boss for the registration.
Nov. 9
Armed robbery
Dep. Reno was dispatched to a local business on Shurling Drive in regard to an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, Reno met with a witness that advised he is the one that called 911. The witness advised Reno that there were two men with a firearm that robbed a female at gunpoint and stole her vehicle. The witness told the deputy that he was only able to witness certain aspects of the robbery due to how fast it happened and his location at the business. The male then directed Reno to the female victim. The victim was in a very emotional state after the robbery. Seeing her condition, Reno asked the female if she needed assistance from EMS. The female advised the deputy that she did not need assistance and began to explain how the robbery unfolded.
The victim stated that she was about to get in her vehicle and leave when two men suddenly appeared. The victim stated one male subject was carrying a black pistol and he pointed it at her face while telling her not to say anything and if she went back inside the business, he would shoot her. The female victim also stated that one of the male subjects started ordering her to give up her keys and other valuables. The victim could not remember everything due to the state she was in, but she was able to recall what the two male subjects were wearing. The two males were also wearing masks.
The female victim stated that she was in fear of losing her life and surrendered her vehicle and possessions to the subjects. The female advised Reno that her cell phone was still in her vehicle that the two subjects took, and they fled the scene in her vehicle traveling west towards the Jones/ Bibb County line.
