The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. 20-22, 2024.
Dec. 20
Resisting arrest
Deputy Elrod and Inv. Hall went to a residence to serve an outstanding warrant on a female for violation of probation. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with the homeowner and asked the male if the female was at the residence. The male advised that the female was there in the bed sleeping. Elrod and Hall made contact with the wanted female subject in her bedroom and advised her they were there to pick her up on the outstanding warrant. The female was told repeatedly to get dressed but continued to refuse then got out of her bed and tried to enter the bathroom. To avoid the female from getting in the bathroom and attempt to flee or barricade herself in, Elrod and Hall tried to immediately place her in handcuffs, however, the female would not place her hands behind her back and comply. Both Elrod and Hall had to wrestle with the female subject to get her placed in the handcuffs. At one point during the struggle, the female grabbed the handcuffs and would not allow it to be placed on her. After continued resistance, Elrod and Hall were able to get the female in the handcuffs. The officers placed a shirt and sweatpants on the female and transported her to the Jones County LEC. Elrod issued a warrant for two counts of misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement along with the outstanding warrant for probation violation.
Meth in her purse
Sgt. Walker was patrolling the area of Hwy. 49 when he observed a vehicle without working taillights. Walker conducted a traffic stop on Hwy.
49 at Griswoldville Road. The sergeant ran the license plate on the vehicle and discovered there was no insurance on the vehicle and the registered owner’s license were suspended. Walker made contact with the female driver and advised her the reason for the stop. Walker asked the female driver for her license and when she went to get them, she blocked Walker’s line of sight as if she was trying to hide something. At that time, Walker had the female driver exit the vehicle and asked her if she had any weapons. The female advised the sergeant that she had a firearm on her person.
Walker retrieved a small handgun from her jacket pocket and placed the female under arrest. Walker then retrieved the female’s purse, keys and cell phone. On top of her purse was a brown paper towel with a pink meth pipe sticking out. Walker then looked inside of a change purse and located crystal meth inside some type of plastic wrapper. The female was charged with no insurance, suspended license, taillight requirements, possession of meth and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The female was transported to the Jones County LEC.
Dec. 21
Pills, pot and alcohol
Deputy Brown was on patrol when he observed a vehicle traveling with no working taillights. Brown got behind the vehicle and activated his in-car camera, blue lights and siren conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle. Brown made contact with the male driver and male passenger and advised the driver that he needed to turn his lights on. The male advised the deputy that the lights were on, and Brown did observe the light switch in the “on” position, however the lights were not working. At that time, the deputy noticed that the male passenger was exhibiting signs of nervousness, so Brown asked the subject for his ID. The male advised the deputy that he did not have one, however, the male then pulled his ID card out of his front pocket. Brown called in the information for the male driver and male passenger. The male passenger’s information came back to show there was a warrant out of Washington County, GA.
Dispatch contacted Washington County and they advised that they would like to place a hold on the male passenger. As Brown continued speaking with the male driver, the deputy detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Brown advised the male driver of the odor and that due to that he would be doing a search of the vehicle. The driver advised the deputy that the only thing he would find in the vehicle was an opened bottle of liquor that the male passenger was drinking.
A backup unit arrived to assist Brown on the scene. Brown had the male driver step out of the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs. The driver was patted down for weapons. Brown then went and had the male passenger step out of the vehicle and patted him down. The deputy advised the male passenger that he had a warrant out for his arrest and asked if the male had anything on him that the deputy needed to be aware of. The male stated that he had weed and a pistol inside the vehicle. Brown went and searched the vehicle at that time and found a 60cc bottle of Liquid Marijuana in his backpack. The passenger had marijuana less than one ounce and a Derringer handgun in his backpack. During the pat down search of the male passenger, Brown found some pills in a clear plastic baggie that appeared to be Ecstasy/Methamphetamine and also a mushroom in his pocket.
The driver was cited for operating a vehicle without taillights, both the driver and passenger were arrested on site for possession of a controlled substance. The passenger was also charged with open container, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a hallucinogen, and also the warrant out of Washington County.
Both the male driver and male passenger were transported to the Jones County LEC.
Dec. 22
Shoplifting
Officer Joiner was dispatched to a local business in reference to a shoplifting that had just occurred.
Dispatch had given Joiner a tag number off the suspected vehicle.
Upon arrival to the business, Joiner met with the manager on duty. The manager advised the officer that he suspected the female subject of shoplifting and got her tag number as she left. The manager also advised Joiner that the security cameras confirmed the female took items without paying for them. Joiner was able to review the security footage. The footage showed the female subject pay for bananas then walk back through the aisles of the business loading her shopping cart. The female could be seen on the footage exiting the business with numerous items in her shopping cart that she did not pay for. Joiner was able to run the tag number through the GCIC system and found the owner of the vehicle. The officer showed the picture to the store manager, and he confirmed that was indeed the female that took the items. Joiner called the phone number that showed up on the database and a female subject answered the call.
The officer asked the female what her name was, and it matched to the tag information the store manager had gotten when she left the business. Joiner spoke to the female and asked if she took the items from the business without paying for them. The female told the officer she did take the items.
Joiner advised the female that she needed to bring the items back to the business and the female stated she would. Joiner and the store manager stood by until the female arrived. The female turned the stolen items over to the manager at that time. Joiner advised the female subject of her Miranda Rights and asked why she stole the items. The female told the officer that she was going through a difficult time. Joiner advised that there were programs she could use instead of shoplifting. The female was then issued a citation for theft by shoplifting, and then she was advised she was criminally trespassed from the business.
Joiner gathered an itemized receipt of all the stolen items to be placed in evidence as well as a copy of the security footage for evidence.
