The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. 31, 2024 – Jan. 2, 2025.
Dec. 31
No license
Deputy Elrod was patrolling the area of Hwy. 49 when he ran a check on a female driver through the GCIC/NCIC system.
The search came back to show that the female driver had a suspended driver’s license. Elrod conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the female driver. Sgt. Sullivan arrived on scene and transported the female driver to the Jones County LEC for booking. The female was issued a citation for driving on a suspended license.
Driver and passenger arrested
Lt. Carr was monitoring traffic on Shurling Drive when he noticed a vehicle pass in front of him traveling toward Macon with a busted windshield from one side to the other side. Carr pulled out behind the vehicle and activated his blue lights conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle pulled into a nearby gas station and came to a stop. Carr observed through the back window of the vehicle, the female driver jumping into the back seat of the vehicle. Carr approached the vehicle and identified himself and the reason for the stop. The female driver that jumped into the back seat identified herself and advised Carr she was driving the vehicle and stated she jumped in the back seat hoping the officer would not notice. The female then admitted to Carr that she had a suspended driver’s license. Carr also noticed the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and asked for dispatch to send another unit to assist. Deputy Elrod arrived on scene. Dispatch confirmed that the female’s driver’s license was suspended. At that time, the female driver was asked to exit the vehicle and she was placed in handcuffs. Carr advised the female she was under arrest for driving with a suspended license. Carr then checked the male passenger’s information through dispatch. Dispatch alerted that the male passenger had an active warrant out of Bibb County. The male exited the vehicle and was placed in handcuffs. A probable cause search of the vehicle was done, and Carr found a clear bag of marijuana sitting on the driver’s seat. Sgt. Sullivan arrived on scene and transported the female driver and male passenger to the Jones County LEC. The female was issued citations for driving while license suspended, cracked windshield and possession of marijuana less than one ounce. The male passenger was turned over to jail staff to await pick up from Bibb County.
Jan. 2
Warrant, no license, no insurance
Deputy Langston was patrolling the area of New Clinton Road when he ran a tag number off a vehicle to check for insurance and registration.
Langston ran the tag number through the NCIC system, and it came back to show suspended registration, no insurance, suspended license and the registered owner had a warrant out of Bibb County. Langston conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at that time. The driver of the vehicle was the registered owner. The male driver was at that time placed in handcuffs and transported to the Jones County LEC where he was issued citations for no insurance, driving on a suspended license and no registration.
