The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department March 27 – April 2, 2025.
March 27
Warrant, no car seat and suspended license
Lt. Carr was on routine patrol when he received an alert for a vehicle having expired registration and no insurance.
Carr located the vehicle on New Clinton Road and activated his blue lights conducting a traffic stop just onto Old Stagecoach Road. Carr made contact with the female driver and advised her the reason for the stop. The female driver advised Carr that she knew the insurance wasn’t paid. While speaking to the female, Carr observed a four-year-old child in the front seat with no car seat or seat belt. Dispatch alerted Carr that the female had a suspended driver’s license and an active warrant out of Bibb County. At that time, Carr had the female driver call someone to come pick up the child, and then secured her in handcuffs. The female was transported to the Jones County LEC where she was issued citations for driving while license suspended, no insurance, expired registration and child not in a car seat. The female signed her citations and was turned over to jail staff for booking.
March 28
Two citations and a warning
Deputy Langston was patrolling the area of Shurling Drive when he ran a tag number on a vehicle to check for valid insurance and registration.
The license plate reader came back to show that the vehicle had suspended registration and no insurance. At that time, Langston conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the female driver and advised her the reason for the stop. Langston obtained the female’s driver’s license and advised her to call and have someone send her the insurance information on the vehicle. When the deputy ran the female’s information through the NCIC system, it came back to show that the female’s license was suspended. Langston returned to the female and advised her that if the insurance could not be verified then the vehicle would have to be towed.
After a long period of time, the female was not able to get any insurance verified. Langston then called the next available wrecker service to come tow the vehicle. The female was arrested and transported to the Jones County jail where she received citations for driving on a suspended license and no proof of insurance. She was also given a warning for the suspended registration.
Marijuana in pants and open container
Sergeant Walker was monitoring traffic on Shurling Drive when he ran a license plate to check for valid registration and insurance. While checking, Walker discovered that the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended license for failure to appear in court.
Walker conducted a traffic stop at that time and made contact with the driver/owner of the vehicle. Walker noticed the smell of marijuana when he made contact with the male driver and asked him about it. The male driver advised Walker that he had marijuana inside of his pants. The sergeant placed the male driver under arrest and searched him for weapons. Walker did a vehicle inventory search and found a bottle of an alcoholic beverage on the passenger side floor.
The marijuana was retrieved at the jail due to where it was located on the male’s person.
The male was issued citations for suspended license, open container and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
March 30
No working tag lights
Deputy Elrod was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with no working tag lights. Elrod initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at Gray Hwy. on the Bibb County side of Graham Road. Elrod made contact with the male driver and the male handed the deputy a GA ID card instead of a driver’s license. The deputy ran the male’s information through the GCIC/NCIC system, and it came back to show the male had a suspended license for child support. At that time, Elrod placed the male in handcuffs and transported him to the Jones County LEC. The vehicle was driven from the scene by a licensed driver and registered owner of the vehicle. Once at the LEC, the male was issued a citation for driving on a suspended license.
April 2
Invalid tag
Corp. Sullivan was on patrol when he received an alert from a Flock Camera of a vehicle that had an expired tag. When the information came in, the tag was showing it was on the wrong vehicle.
Sullivan noticed the vehicle coming off Horseshoe Drive and he conducted a traffic stop at New Clinton Road and Alandale Drive. Sullivan made contact with the male driver and advised him the reason for the stop was the wrong tag on the vehicle. The male driver claimed that he just purchased the vehicle, but the title wasn’t signed and the other paperwork he had was dated over a month ago. The male stated he had no business being behind the wheel. The male driver then handed Sullivan an ID card.
The corporal checked the driver’s information and the VIN number of the vehicle, and it came back to show the male had a suspended license and the vehicle had no valid insurance. At that time, the male was placed in handcuffs and placed in the rear seat of Sullivan’s patrol vehicle. The next available wrecker service arrived and towed the vehicle. The male was transported to the Jones County jail where he was booked and released on the following citations: no insurance, driving while license suspended and improper tag display.
