The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department June 23-25, 2025.
June 23
Outstanding warrant
Officer Joiner was monitoring traffic on East Clinton Street at the Crossing when he ran a tag number from a vehicle to check for valid insurance and registration. Joiner ran the information through the GCIC system, and it came back to show the registration on the vehicle had expired and the registered owner had an outstanding warrant through Jones County Magistrate Court. Joiner got behind the vehicle and saw that the female driver was also on her cell phone while at the traffic light on East Clinton Street.
Once traffic started moving, Joiner activated his blue lights and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop on West Clinton Street and Atlanta Road. The officer made contact with the female driver and advised her the reason for the stop. The female driver gave Joiner her driver’s license and the officer called dispatch to confirm the outstanding warrant. Joiner went back to the female subject and had her step out of the vehicle. The female complied with the officer and seemed to be very calm and respectful. Joiner explained to the female subject that she had an outstanding warrant and the female asked if she could call someone to come get her vehicle. Joiner complied with the female’s request, to save her some money, and let her call and make arrangements for the vehicle to be picked up from the location. After the female made her phone call, she was placed in handcuffs and checked for any weapons or contraband. None were found. The female was transported to the Jones County Jail where she was served with the Jones County Magistrate warrant. The female driver was also given a citation for the expired registration and a warning for the unlawful use of a wireless device. The female was then turned over to jail staff.
Warrants, no insurance, suspended license
Officer Pointer was patrolling the area near the Gray Bypass when he was alerted to a vehicle with tag violations. Pointer fell in behind the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The officer met with the male driver and advised the reason for the stop was no insurance and expired, suspended tag. The male advised Pointer that his vehicle should have insurance that his sister takes care of that for him. The male also stated that he had just purchased the vehicle two weeks ago and he attempted to find the paperwork but was unable to present the information to the officer. Pointer returned to his patrol vehicle and ran the male’s information through the GCIC system, and it showed his license suspended and several warrants for the subject. Pointer returned to the male subject and had him exit the vehicle. The male was then placed in handcuffs and cleared of any weapons and contraband then placed in the rear of Pointer’s patrol vehicle.
The male driver was then transported to the Jones County LEC where he was served with a warrant and four traffic citations with a court date for the offenses, then turned over to jail staff for booking.
June 25
Wrong license plate
Deputy Langston was on GA Hwy.
49 when a vehicle hit on a Flock camera for expired registration.
Langston was also alerted that the tag on the vehicle belonged to a different vehicle. Langston located the vehicle in a nearby business parking lot, and when the vehicle turned on Millerfield Road, the deputy activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. The male driver proceeded down Millerfield Road and turned on Manson Road. While driving, the male subject kept motioning to the deputy to acknowledge that he saw him. The male then turned into a driveway where he turned the vehicle off. Langston then made contact with the male subject and advised him the reason for the stop. The deputy asked the male driver for his license and the male stated that he did not have one. At that time, the male subject gave the deputy his name and date of birth and stated that he did not know if the vehicle had insurance or not. Langston returned to his patrol vehicle and ran the subject’s information. The search came back to show the male’s license was suspended and the vehicle did not have valid insurance coverage. The male subject was arrested, and the next available wrecker service arrived to tow the vehicle. The male driver was issued citations for suspended license, use of a license plate to conceal, no insurance and taillight requirements.
