The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department June 26 – July 9, 2025.
June 26
Suspicious person
Corp. Sullivan was patrolling the area of Joycliff Road at Gray Highway when he noticed a male subject with a large stick on the sidewalk of a nearby gas station.
Sullivan made contact with the male subject and identified him.
The male advised Sullivan that he was homeless and had been walking around. Sullivan then ran the male’s information through the GCIC system, and it came back to show the male had an active warrant out of Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for violation of probation for burglary. At that time, Sullivan placed the male in handcuffs and dispatch verified the warrant. Sullivan then transported the male subject to the Jones County Jail to await pick up from Bibb County.
June 27
No tag lights
Deputy Sullivan was monitoring traffic in the area of Hwy. 49 and Pamela Drive when he observed a vehicle pass by with no tag lights.
The deputy pulled out behind the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Sullivan made contact with the female driver and advised her the reason for the stop. While speaking to the female driver, Sullivan noticed a young child in the rear seat of the vehicle standing up with no child safety seat or seat belt. The deputy asked the female why the child was not restrained, and the female advised that she had just picked her child up and the car seat was at her residence.
Sullivan advised the female that she had to contact someone to bring her a car seat. The deputy then ran the female’s license with dispatch, and it came back to show that her license was suspended due to a failure to appear. Sullivan advised the female that she would be going to jail. The deputy was also informed that the vehicle’s registration was also suspended.
The female’s mother arrived on scene to get the child. Deputy Patterson arrived on scene and transported the female driver to the Jones County LEC. Once Sullivan arrived at the LEC, he issued the female citations for suspended license, suspended registration, child seat belt violation and tag lights required.
The female was turned over to jail staff.
July 4
Wanted person
Officer Josey was patrolling the area of West Clinton Street when he ran a vehicle tag number through his in-car computer. The information came back to show that the registered owner of the vehicle was wanted out of Baldwin County. Officer Farley and Officer Josey conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Josey made contact with the male driver and advised the reason for the stop. Josey advised the male to step out of the vehicle and placed the subject in handcuffs. Dispatch confirmed the warrant through Baldwin County.
Baldwin County advised the warrant was valid and they wanted to meet the Gray PD officers on Hwy. 22 at the county line. Josey advised the male driver that he would be going to Baldwin and then transported the male subject to the county line where he was turned over to Baldwin officers.
July 5
Flock camera alert
Corp. Sullivan was patrolling the area of Hwy. 49 and Joycliff Road when he was alerted by a Flock camera of a vehicle with suspended registration. Sullivan ran the tag number from the information and also found out the vehicle had no valid insurance, and the owner had a warrant out of Bibb County.
Sullivan conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Hwy. 49 and Mattie Wells Drive and made contact with the driver/registered owner. The female driver was asked to exit the vehicle at that time. The female driver advised Sullivan that she had a firearm under her seat. Sullivan recovered a Glock model X43. The female was then transported to the Jones County LEC where she was booked for no insurance and suspended registration. The warrant for Bibb County was verified and a hold was placed for Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to pick up the female.
Sitting in the parking lot
Corp. Sullivan was conducting a business check on Shurling Drive when he noticed a vehicle sitting in the parking lot of a business. The vehicle was the only vehicle in the parking lot, and it was in the last parking spot in the corner of the business. When Sullivan pulled into the parking lot, he observed the business was closed and there were no lights on in the vehicle that was sitting there. Sullivan then got the tag number from the vehicle and checked it through GCIC system, and it came back to show the owner was wanted out of Bibb County. Sullivan approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and made contact with the male driver. The male was placed in handcuffs and placed in the rear of Sullivan’s patrol vehicle while they waited for Bibb County to verify the warrant.
Once the warrant was verified, Sullivan transported the male subject to the Jones County LEC to await pickup from Bibb County.
July 7
Shoplifting
Lt. Carr was working routine patrol when he was alerted by dispatch to be on the lookout for a vehicle occupied by three female subjects that had just stole items from a local business. The BOLO stated that they turned on Shurling Drive headed towards Jones County. Carr then observed a vehicle matching the description of the car parked at a gas station.
Carr then noticed three females exit from the vehicle and go inside the store. Carr and Inv.
Hall pulled in behind the vehicle and a short while later, made contact with the female subjects.
Carr first made contact with the driver and front seat passenger and advised them the reason for the contact. The driver of the vehicle advised she did not take anything from the business, but the rear seat passenger did. The female driver stated that they all went inside the business and only took one item. The rear seat passenger was identified at that time. The passenger stated that she took snacks from the store for the children. Inv. Hall went to the business and reviewed video footage. Hall discovered that the rear seat female passenger and the female driver had bags inside the business. The female driver advised Carr that the bags were in the vehicle on the back seat. At that time, the female driver also admitted to taking items from the business. The female driver advised that they were willing to go back to the business and pay for all the items. Inv. Hall arrived back on scene and advised the female subjects that the business wanted to press charges on the two subjects. Carr removed the bags from the vehicle and placed all the items in the bags on the hood of the car. Dispatch then alerted Carr that the female driver had an active warrant out of Bibb County for shoplifting. Both the female passenger and the female driver were secured in handcuffs and advised they were under arrest. Lt. Ransom arrived on scene and transported the two female subjects to the Jones County LEC. Inv. Hall returned all items back to the business and was provided a receipt showing the items and their value. Once at the LEC, warrants were secured for both the female driver and the female passenger for shoplifting. The female driver was also issued citations for driving while license suspended, expired tag and no insurance. Both female subjects were then turned over to jail staff for booking.
July 9
Possession of crack cocaine
Lt. Pennamon was on routine patrol when he received an alert on his in-car computer that a vehicle was showing expired registration and no valid insurance. The vehicle was traveling on Railroad Street towards Bill Conn Pkwy. Pennamon headed in that direction and located the vehicle on Railroad Street at the intersection of Forest Street. Pennamon then activated his emergency blue lights and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The vehicle came to a stop just past Jefferson Street on Gordon Street.
Pennamon then made contact with the driver and one passenger and advised the reason for the stop. Pennamon then called for Capt. Hunnicutt’s assistance on the stop. As Hunnicutt was speaking to the driver, he smelled the odor of burnt marijuana. At that time, the driver and passenger were asked to exit the vehicle so a complete search could be done. Hunnicutt located a small clear plastic bag of suspected crack cocaine on the driver’s side door panel and located marijuana in the middle console of the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were placed in handcuffs. Officer Jones arrived on scene and transported the passenger to the Jones County LEC. Pennamon transported the driver to the LEC. The driver was given citations for expired registration, driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance, no insurance, possession of marijuana less than one ounce and a warrant for possession of crack cocaine. The passenger was charged with possession of marijuana less than one ounce and possession of crack cocaine. Both were turned over to jail staff for booking.
