The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. 5-10, 2025.
Dec. 5
No license
Dep. Sullivan was patrolling the area of Joycliff Rd. and Old Stagecoach Rd. when he observed a vehicle that he had received a Flock camera alert on earlier that day. Sullivan had run the license plates on the vehicle through the GCIC system, and it came back to show that the vehicle had an expired registration, and the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The deputy ran the license plate again to verify and the same information returned.
Sullivan made contact with the male driver and advised him the reason for the stop. When the deputy asked the male driver for his license, the male stated he did not have one. Dispatch also confirmed the male’s license were suspended. At that time, Sullivan placed the male driver in handcuffs and transported him to the Jones County LEC where he issued citations for expired registrations and suspended driver’s license. The male driver was then turned over to jail staff.
Dec. 8
No child support, no license
Dep. Ribeiro initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Hwy. 49 at Joycliff for the third brake light not working. The deputy approached the vehicle, made contact with the male driver and advised him the reason for the stop. When Ribeiro asked the male for his driver’s license, the male advised he did not have it because of child support. The deputy ran the male’s information, and it came back to show his license was suspended. Dispatch confirmed the suspension, and the deputy placed the male subject in handcuffs. The vehicle was left for a family member to pick up and the male was transported to the Jones County LEC where he was booked on driving with suspended license and given a warning for the third brake light not working.
Dec. 9
Wanted person found with drugs
Dep. Dennis was called to a scene where the investigation revealed a female subject on site that had active warrants for her arrest. Dennis placed the female subject in custody and handcuffed her behind her back.
A search of her person incident to the arrest revealed a quantity of marijuana and suspected pills of a controlled substance. The female was transported to the Jones Co. Jail and turned over to jail staff for processing. There is an ongoing investigation on further allegations of the female subject at this time.
Dec. 10
Faint scent of marijuana
Officer Meeks was patrolling the area of West Clinton St. near Highview St. when she ran a tag number on a vehicle to check for valid insurance and registration. When the information was run through the GCIC system, it came back to show the vehicle had expired and canceled registration and no valid insurance.
Meeks activated her blue lights and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Dolly St. and Highview St. Meeks made contact with the male driver and passenger and advised the reason for the stop. The male driver advised the officer that he recently got the vehicle from his grandmother, and he has insurance on the vehicle, however he is working on getting the registration in his name and valid again. As Meeks was speaking to the male, she detected the faint odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The officer asked the male driver if he had anything inside the vehicle and he admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in the center ash tray of the vehicle. Officer Meeks observed Officer Farley arrive on scene and she had both the male driver and passenger to exit the vehicle. Meeks conducted a vehicle search and located a clear baggie containing a small amount of green leafy marijuana.
Nothing else was located in the vehicle. Officer Meeks issued the male driver two citations, one for expired registration and the second for possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce. Officer Farley confirmed there was insurance on the vehicle. The male driver signed his citations and left the scene without further incident.
