The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. 5-10, 2025.
Dec. 11
Stolen deodorant
Dep. Steib was dispatched to a local business on Shurling Dr. in reference to a shoplifter.
Upon arrival, Steib met with an employee of the business that stated a male subject wearing cargo pants and a green jacket entered the store and asked where the playing cards were.
The employee stated she directed the male subject to the cards.
The male purchased the playing cards, however, when he exited the business, the employee observed a stick of deodorant in his back pocket that had not been paid for. The employee stated she also saw the male subject place other unknown items in his pants, but she was not sure what those items were.
The employee advised the deputy that the male exited the business and got into the passenger side of a vehicle heading towards Bibb County. No further actions have been taken at this time.
Dec. 12
Stolen wallet
Dep. Patterson was dispatched to Hungerford Rd. in reference to the theft of a wallet. When he arrived on scene, Patterson spoke to the complainant that advised she takes care of her uncle and his monthly bills. She advised the deputy that her uncle had just had a large check cashed the day before. The complainant stated that when she went to her uncle’s house the next day, he told her a female that had been over visiting him stole his wallet.
The uncle stated that the female subject was the only one at his house. She had come over and they had some drinks, then he went outside to take a phone call and his wallet was on the table by the couch. When he woke up the next morning, the female and his wallet were gone. The complainant then meets Deputy Patterson at the female subject’s house. While the deputy was taking the complainant’s statement, someone yelled out the female has the wallet and she tried to throw it in the woods.
The deputy then sees the female subject running and Patterson stops her on the front porch and placesherunderarrest. Amale subject found the wallet and gave it to the deputy. The wallet had the owner’s GA driver’s license inside and some cash remaining in it. While Patterson was searching the female subject before placing her in his patrol car, he found a crack pipe and five pieces of crack cocaine in her right front pocket of her pants. The wallet was returned to the owner. The female was transported to the Jones County LEC and booked on one count of theft by taking and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
Dec. 13
Cruelty to animals
Dep. Robinson was dispatched to a business on GA Hwy. 49 in reference to someone dropping a dog off in the parking lot of the business. Upon arrival, Robinson made contact with the complainant that stated a male in a white car pulled into the business and dropped the puppy off in the parking lot and left the scene. The complainant also stated that the male actually ran over the puppy when he was leaving, and there was a female in the vehicle also. The complainant and employee of the business told Robinson that she has video footage of the area. Upon reviewing the video, Robinson noted that a white vehicle without a front bumper was seen. Dep. Shurley arrived on scene to assist at that time. The deputies searched Flock cameras for a possible location and tag of the vehicle but could not locate a vehicle matching the description. Dep.
Shurley advised he was going to ride around and check the area for the vehicle. Shurley eventually located the vehicle from matching camera footage and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on East Virginia Ave.
Robinson met Shurley on scene of the traffic stop and made contact with the male driver of the vehicle. Robinson asked the male driver about the dog and at first, he said he did not drop the dog off. Robinson advised the male subject that they knew he dropped the dog off and left. The male then advised the deputy that the dog was peeing and pooping all over the house.
The deputy then advised the male he ran over the dog as he was leaving. The male subject stated he did not know he ran over the dog. Robinson then went and spoke to the female passenger. She stated that the male intended to leave the dog at the business, but she also did not know the dog was ran over.
There was another passenger in the rear seat that was not part of the incident. Robinson walked back over to the male subject and advised him he was going to be charged with cruelty to animals.
The male was handcuffed and transported to the Jones County LEC.
Dec. 14
Trashed FedEx packages
Dep. Robinson was dispatched to the area of Old Gray Hwy. in reference to FedEx packages being dumped behind a church. Upon arrival, Robinson made contact with the complainant that stated she noticed several packages behind the church parking lot. She pointed Robinson in the direction where she found the packages. Robinson went to the bottom of a hill and observed several packages that were to be delivered to addresses in Eatonton. Robinson counted a total of 20 packages. Another witness stated there was video from the church security system that showed a Penske box truck back into the same place the packages were found.
The video shows the driver getting out of the truck and then the truck leaving. Robinson attempted to contact FedEx via their customer service line but could not get a person on the phone. The deputy advised dispatch to make an attempt to call them also to see if they could reach a person. Dispatch got someone on the phone and transferred them to Dep. Robinson. The male on the phone stated he was a contractor for FedEx and operated the area of 31211. The deputy advised the male that the packages were for Eatonton and the male gave Robinson another contact person that is a contractor in the Eatonton area. Robinson got in touch with that contractor, and she advised she was the manager and knew who the driver was that dumped the packages. The manager gave Robinson the employee’s name.
The manager also stated that she had reached out to the employee on the same night the packages were supposed to be delivered because the employee had logged off the system but stated she had several more packages to deliver. The employee told her manager that her tablet was dead. The manager advised Robinson that she would arrange a truck to pick up the packages and have them delivered to the proper owners. The manager also gave Robinson the employee’s driver’s license information and advised that packages have come up missing on her route prior to this incident and she had only been working for them for around two months. Robinson obtained a warrant for theft by taking on the female employee due to the fact the employee intentionally deprived persons from their property, without the intention of delivering said property to the assigned addresses.
