The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. Jan. 2-4, 2026
Jan. 3
Dog bite
Dep. Elliot was dispatched to a local residence in reference to a complainant stating they had been bitten by a dog. Upon arrival, Elliot spoke to the complainant/ victim, and she stated her neighbor’s dogs had been loose in the neighborhood for some time now. On that day, the complainant told the deputy that there were five dogs in her yard and her dog was outside also. The complainant stated that the neighbor’s five dogs attacked her dog. When the attack happened, the complainant said she retrieved a stick and stopped the attack on her dog. In the process, one of the five dogs had bitten her on the right leg near her knee. The complainant then stated the animals returned to their home. When Elliot arrived on scene, he noticed that there were five dogs in the street and then returned back to a residence.
The deputy contacted Rescue to come medically evaluate the complainant/victim, who had two puncture wounds to her right leg just next to her right knee.
Animal Control Officer Carlton arrived on scene and both the deputy and officer went to the residence of the dogs to contact the owner. There was no answer at the door and the two phone numbers Elliot could find were out of service. The complainant/ victim declined to go to the hospital at that time and said she would go at her convenience.
Animal Control Officer Carlton spoke to the victim and advised her to contact her if the residents returned to the home. Carlton provided the victim with an Animal Control card and an incident number.
Jan. 4
Just helping out a buddy
Dep. Coley was dispatched to a local residence in reference to a theft. Once she arrived at the residence, the deputy met with the male complainant. The male advised the deputy that he had been helping out a buddy from Milledgeville by giving him a place to stay once in a while and giving him money. The complainant gave Coley the male’s name and stated the male subject had stolen several items from his home.
The complainant stated the items missing were a 14-kt. silver necklace $50, Air pods brand new $200, Milwaukee Drill and battery $500, DVR brand new $50, brass knuckles $20. Coley asked the complainant if he had spoken to the subject or if he had any messages between him and the male. The complainant then showed the deputy screen shots of the male subject admitting to taking the items from his home.
Coley got this footage on her body camera she was wearing at the time. The complainant stated that he did not want to press charges but did want to give the male subject a chance to give his items back. Coley advised the male if he changed his mind about pressing charges, or if there are any further actions in regard to the male subject coming on his property, to give JCSO a call.
Burglary
Dep. Elliot was dispatched to a local residence in reference to a burglary. Once on scene, the deputy made contact with the female complainant. The complainant advised the deputy that she had been staying at the address on and off for a while as she was taking care of family matters out of town. The complainant stated that when she returned to the residence on 1/4/2026, she saw that several large items had been taken from the home. The female showed Elliot the interior of the home and it appeared to be in the middle of renovations. The female advised the deputy that the home was in her family’s name, and she had been staying there. The complainant also stated that her brother had hired a handy man for repairs and renovations of the home.
Elliot made contact with the complainant’s brother, and he stated that he hired a male subject to do the renovations and allowed him to stay at the home for several days while the work was getting completed.
The brother also advised that he and the male subject had moved furnishing from the home but had not touched the two mounted television sets or blue tooth speakers. As the brother continued to speak to the deputy, he said that he saw the male subject had not begun renovations. The female complainant was not able to provide any serial numbers or make or model numbers for the items that were missing.
Some if the items included rented furniture. The female stated she would get a list together when she was able to and contact law enforcement when it was available. Dep.
Elliot went and looked at the front and back doors before leaving the scene. Elliot noticed considerable damage to both doors. The female complainant stated that the doors had been like that and that the home was not able to be properly secured. The deputy gave the female a business card with the case number for referencing the items that were taken from the residence.
