The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. Jan. 8-12, 2026
Jan. 8
Failure to register
Corp. Sullivan was contacted by Lt. Gay in reference to one of the sex offenders he monitors. Lt. Gay assists Sullivan in his duties with the sex offenders registration when they come in the office for their yearly registration paperwork. The male subject did not show up for his annual birthday registration.
All GA sex offenders must annually renew their registration in person at their county sheriff’s office within 72 hours of their birthday.
Sullivan was in the act of securing a warrant on the male subject when Lt. Gay called him to advise the male subject showed up to the office saying that he just got out of the hospital. The male subject stated that was the reason he did not come register. The male was unable to produce any paperwork but did have some wounds and stitches that showed he had some medical attention at some point.
The male subject also stated that he was released from the hospital four days ago, and he should have reported to the sheriff’s office but did not. The warrant was secured, and the male subject was arrested in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office for failure to comply with the GA Sex Offender registry.
Jan. 9
Gunshots in the area
Dep. Dennis was dispatched to a local residence in reference to a report of gunshots being fired and a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Once on scene, Dennis made contact with the complainant. The complainant stated they heard a loud gun shot and after the gunshot he looked and heard a vehicle leave the area at a high rate of speed. The complainant gave the deputy the description of what he could see of the vehicle and advised Dennis that they just wanted to make sure there was no one hurt in the area of the shots, and they do not normally hear gunshots around there. After speaking with the complainant, Dennis checked the area of the shots and did not observe any obvious signs of criminal activity in that area, however, there were areas that could provide a clear shooting lane for “night hunting.”
Dennis will have the area increase in patrol.
Jan. 12
Upset driver
Dep. Morgan was conducting speed detection on Hwy. 22 eastbound, just east of Haddock when he noticed a vehicle approaching from the rear at a rate of speed above normal. Morgan activated his rear facing radar, and it alerted the vehicle was traveling 69 MPH in a 55-MPH speed zone.
Morgan caught up to the vehicle, bearing a GA tag, and activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. Once Morgan made contact with the male driver, he could tell the male was visibly upset after a brief conversation.
At that time, Morgan requested the male’s driver’s license and the male advised they were suspended for a DUI that occurred over two years ago. The male driver did provide a GA ID card and the deputy confirmed the license was suspended. The male driver was then placed under arrest for driving while his license was suspended. The male was transported to the Jones County detention center and issued citations for driving while license suspended and speeding in excess of the maximum limit.
Suspicious person carrying metal pipe
Dep. Morgan was dispatched to a call in reference to a suspicious person walking on Highway 18 E. carrying a large metal pipe. Upon arrival to the area, Morgan located a male subject walking northbound carrying a large silver colored pipe. The deputy made contact with the male subject and got his name. Morgan contacted dispatch and gave the male’s name.
Dispatch advised the male subject had a valid probation warrant out of Jones County. Morgan then placed the male subject in wrist restraints and transported him to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center where he was turned over to jail staff without further incident.
