The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Feb. 2-16, 2026
Feb. 4
Young and reckless
Officer Josey heard a call for a be on the lookout for two vehicles that had just been seen damaging a field on Childs St. and Turnerwoods Rd. The person that witnessed the vehicles committing the act was able to record video footage. The witness advised that when the vehicles left from the field they went in two different directions, but that he was able to follow behind one of the vehicles and continued giving updates on the vehicle’s direction of travel.
Officer Josey intercepted that vehicle on West Clinton St. and successfully initiated a traffic stop. When Josey was approaching the vehicle, he smelt the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and immediately called for another unit. Josey identified the male driver and while speaking to him, the other vehicle involved in the act pulled up and parked further down from the traffic stop. Two male subjects exited that vehicle and started walking towards Josey and the other subject’s vehicle. Josey asked the two male subjects walking up if they were the other party involved in the incident, and advised they were. Capt. Hunnicutt arrived on scene to assist and started speaking with one of the male subject’s parents. All of the subjects were identified, and their parents were advised to be in route to the stop location. Josey then began a probable cause search of the vehicle he made the stop on.
The officer located a partial hand rolled blunt end “roach” in the back driver’s side floorboard along with two open cans of Buzzballs. In the center console of the vehicle, Josey found a white in color vape that was empty. One of the male subjects advised the officer that it was a THC vape and it belonged to one of the other male subjects. Once the parents of the subjects arrived, they were advised the reason for the stop as well as the contraband that was located.
Officer Josey then issued citations for the following to the male driver and male passenger of the vehicle he stopped. Reckless driving and laying drag, possession of marijuana less than one ounce and possession of alcohol underage. All citations were explained to the parties involved along with the appropriate court system that would be handling the charges. All parties signed their set of citations and turned over to their respective parents.
Feb. 5
No license and wanted
Officer Josey conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a GA tag for showing suspended registration.
Josey made contact with the male driver and female passenger and advised the reason for the stop. The male driver gave Josey his Virginia ID card, and the officer ran the information through the GCIC system.
The information came back to show that the male had a suspended driver’s license and was wanted through Putnam County Sheriff Office. The officer returned to the vehicle and asked the female passenger if she had a valid driver’s license, and she did indeed. Josey was advised that Putnam County wished to place a hold on the male subject. At that time, the officer placed the male driver in handcuffs and transported him to the Jones County LEC. Once at the LEC, the male subject was turned over to jail staff for booking and hold for Putnam County. Josey then issued the male two citations for operating a vehicle with suspended registration and driving while license suspended. The male signed the court copies of the citations.
Feb. 16
Show rabbits killed
Dep. Dennis was dispatched to a local residence in reference to two dogs killing show rabbits. Once Dennis arrived at the location, he made contact with the complainant. The complainant advised the deputy that when he arrived at the location, he discovered the dogs in his yard. The complainant also stated that the dogs came up to his vehicle when he pulled up as if they knew him, then soon realized they had killed his show rabbits. The complainant told the deputy that he secured the dogs then contacted law enforcement.
While speaking to the complainant, Dennis noted that the dogs killed six American Sable rabbits valued at approximately $500 each, and one male American Standard Rex rabbit valued at $500. The dogs had also attacked his chickens. The complainant stated that he had approximately 100 chickens and there were obliviously not 100 on site. There were multiple sites with clumps of chicken feathers on the ground.
The complainant told Dennis that he had never seen the dogs before and showed the deputy a trail camera photo of one of the dogs chasing a chicken. The scene was photographed, and the dogs were turned over to Animal Control. This remains an active case.
