The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Feb. 16-21, 2026
Feb. 16
“You know I’m drunk”
Dep. Dominguez was on patrol in the area of Joycliff Rd. near New Clinton Rd. when he observed a pick-up truck cross over the fog line at least four times. At that time, Dominguez activated his blue lights and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The male driver stopped, and the deputy made contact with him. Immediately, Dominguez smelled the odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle. The deputy advised the male driver the reason for the stop was due to him crossing over the fog line and it appeared that he was struggling to maintain his lane. The male driver told the deputy that he was distracted by his child, who was sitting in the back seat in a car seat. As the male was speaking, Dominguez continued to smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and his eyelids were droopy and eyes were bloodshot. The male advised the deputy he was headed home.
Dominguez asked the male if he had been drinking and he stated that he had. The male then started pleading with the deputy to let him go, tow his truck and let someone pick him up. The male also offered to pay the deputy as well, but Dominguez told him no. The deputy let the male driver call his wife to pick up the child. Deputies Steib and Patterson arrived on the scene to assist. Dominguez asked the male driver if he would participate in a Standardized Field Sobriety Test and the male agreed. During the final test of the series, the male was unable to keep his balance, he was swaying and using his arms to balance. The male was unable to complete the test and advised the deputy that he couldn’t do it and he stopped. Dominguez determined that the male driver was intoxicated and placed him under arrest at that time and read his Implied Consent to which the male agreed to a blood draw. The deputy requested an on-call nurse to meet him at the jail and transported the male driver.
During the drive to the Jones County Jail, the male fell asleep and was slumped over throughout the entire ride. Once they arrived at the jail, staff took the male subject to a holding cell and the nurse arrived for the blood draw. Before the nurse was able to do the blood draw, jail staff notified Dominguez that the male no longer consented to giving blood. The deputy went and spoke to the male subject and the male stated, “you already know I’m drunk” and he “doesn’t want to go through all that.” He “just wanted to go to sleep.” Dominguez advised the male that he would be cited for Implied Consent refusal, failure to maintain lane and DUI child endangerment.
Feb. 17
“Deputies were harassing”
Dep. Ribeiro was patrolling the area of Hwy. 18 E. when his radar alerted to a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. The radar display showed the speed of the vehicle was 93 MPH in a 55-MPH speed zone. Ribeiro turned around in attempt to catch up to the vehicle. The deputy reached speeds over 110 MPH with his blue lights and sirens activated. At that time, the deputy saw the vehicle make a right hand turn onto Hwy. 49 southbound. As the vehicle began making the turn, the deputy could see a cloud of dust form as the vehicle accelerated trying to pick up speed. Once the deputy got closer to the vehicle, the driver began to pull over to the side of the road. Ribeiro made contact with the male driver and the male began arguing stating that “Jones County were harassing.” The deputy explained that he had him on radar at 93 MPH in a 55-MPH zone.
Ribeiro advised the male driver to call someone to pick up the vehicle and transported the male to the Jones County LEC. The male driver received a citation for speeding and reckless driving.
Bench warrant
Dep. Patterson was patrolling the area of Gray Hwy. when he observed a vehicle behind a local business that looked suspicious. Patterson turned around and entered the parking lot with his headlights off. He drove behind the business with his blue cruise lights on and noticed a young female girl with two older females putting bags into their car. Patterson made contact with the female subjects and asked them what they were doing. The females stated they were “donating.” The deputy asked for the first female’s license and ran her information. Nothing came back on the first female’s name or date of birth. The second female gave Patterson her information and he ran it. The second female subject’s information came back to show that she had a Bench warrant out of Bibb County. Patterson put the female subject in handcuffs and placed her under arrest and in the back seat of his patrol vehicle. The deputy then asked the first female why they were stealing from the business, and she stated they needed the items. Patterson advised the female that she would not be going to jail at that time because she had her young daughter with her, but he would be back in touch with her after he spoke to the business owner. The deputy also told the female that it would be up to the business owner if she was going to be charged with theft by taking. The female returned the bags she took and was free to leave the scene at that time.
Patterson transferred the second female subject to the Jones County Jail on the Bench warrant for Bibb County.
Feb. 19
Pending warrant issued
Dep. Braziel arrived at a local business and met with the assistant manager who advised him of a suspected shoplifting. The manager advised the deputy that two females were inside the business and one of the female subjects purchased and paid for a few items.
Both females walked outside the business and then re-entered. The manager stated that when the females returned, she observed one of them acting suspicious and that prompted her to look at the surveillance footage. After reviewing the footage, the manager observed one of the females concealing merchandise and failing to pay for the items. The other female was not observed taking any merchandise. Both females were identified by name. The total value of the merchandise taken by the one female subject was approximately $73.50. Based on the investigation and review of surveillance footage, probable cause was established, and a pending warrant was issued for theft by shoplifting. The female subject was taken into custody and transported to the Jones County jail.
Feb. 21
Public drunk
Dep. Dennis responded to a local residence for a call to remove an intoxicated person from their driveway. The caller stated the male subject was passed out. When Dennis made contact with the male subject, he immediately smelled the odor of alcohol come from the subject’s person. The male was not responding to verbal stimuli, he only responded to a sternum rub.
Further investigation revealed that the subject had an active trespass order against him. The subject was transported to the Jones County Jail and turned over to jail staff for processing. A citation was issued to the male for public drunkenness.
