The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Feb. 16-26, 2026
Feb. 16
No thru trucks
Officer Holloway was patrolling the area of West Clinton St. when he observed a tractor trailer failing to obey the No Thru Trucks sign.
Holloway activated his blue lights and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Holloway made contact with the male driver and ran the driver’s information through the GCIC system on his in-car computer. The result came back to show the male driver license was suspended all for child support obligations. Holloway asked the male if he knew his license had been suspended. The male advised they should not be, he had paid his child support. The officer asked the male driver if there was anyone that could come pick up the tractor trailer truck and he stated he would try to get his employer to pick it up. Holloway also spoke to the male’s employer and advised them they had about an hour to pick up the truck before it was towed. Holloway transported the male driver to the Jones County LEC where he was issued a citation for weight restrictions/no thru trucks and driving while license being suspended. The male was turned over to jail staff. The male driver’s employer called Officer Holloway and told him they could not give an ETA on when the truck would be picked up, so at that time, Holloway called the next listed wrecker service to remove the truck from the stop location.
Feb. 20
Wanted person arrested
Officer Meeks observed a vehicle parked under the canopy at the Crossing. Meeks ran the tag number through the GCIC system, and it returned with valid registration and insurance, but showed the registered owner had an active warrant out of Bibb County as well as suspended license. As Meeks was waiting on the information from GCIC to come up, he noticed the passenger window rolled down and a female advised him that they were broke down and someone was on the way to help. As the officer was speaking to the female passenger, she noticed the male driver looked like the registered owner shown in the system. Meeks then had dispatch run the tag number and license number of the registered owner. Meeks then made contact with the male driver and explained to him the reason for the contact was to verify that he had an active warrant. The male gave Meeks his date of birth and it matched the information on the warrant.
Officer Farley arrived on scene to assist. Meeks placed the male driver in handcuffs and Farley conducted a pat down for officer safety as well as for contraband.
During the pat down search, Farley found a small bud of green marijuana on the male subject.
Meeks allowed the male to dispose of it. Dispatch then advised that Bibb County wanted to place a hold on the male driver, and he was then placed under arrest. Officer Meeks transported the wanted male to the Jones County LEC and no local charges were filed on the subject.
Feb. 21
Take me to jail
Officer Joiner and Sgt. Hathaway were advised by dispatch that there was a possible drunk driver headed into Gray, on Gray Hwy. A few minutes later, Joiner and Hathaway made contact with the vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway, straddling the center white line, blocking traffic on both lanes of travel. Joiner and Hathaway got out of their patrol vehicles and attempted to make contact with the driver of the vehicle. Officer Joiner observed the male driver of the vehicle to be blinking slowly and appearing confused and sleepy. Sgt. Hathaway conducted a driver side approach while Joiner went on the passenger side of the vehicle. Sgt. Hathaway asked the driver to place the vehicle in park, shut the vehicle off and step out to which the male complied.
Officer Joiner moved the upcoming traffic around the stop location. The male subject was checked for weapons for officer safety. A Smith and Wesson 9mm was located and secured from the right side of the male’s waistband.
Joiner took the weapon and cleared it, but there were ten rounds loaded into the magazine, which was in the weapon. The officer then moved the male’s vehicle over to the side of the roadway in the turning lane. Officer Joiner then went back to the male and asked him if he had anything to drink tonight. The male replied, “yeah I did.”
The male advised he had drank beer and really did not know how much he drank. Joiner also observed the male subject swaying as he stood unassisted and the odor of alcohol coming from the male’s person. The male would mumble, and his speech was slurred.
As the Standardized Field Sobriety Test was being set up, the male stated, “I already know what it is, take me to jail,” and started leaning of the rear of his vehicle. Joiner then asked the male if he would submit to some roadside tests to make sure he was safe to operate a motor vehicle. When the male answered he was slurring his words again. The male stated that he was not doing the tests, but then stated that he was not refusing. The male continued talking and stated, “I didn’t even know I came to Gray,” and then stated, “it’s just my fault.” Officer Joiner started to put the male in the starting position for the Walk and Turn test and the male stopped standing in the starting position and argued that he could just go and that he knew he was going to jail. After seeing that the male driver did not want to continue any further with the SFST, he was asked to give a breath sample on the alco-sensor, and it showed a result of .214. At that time, the male driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. The officer then read the mail his Georgia Implied Consent card for persons aged 21 and over and asked for a chemical test of his blood. The male agreed and was transported to the Jones County LEC. When they arrived at the LEC the male was escorted to the medical area of the jail and his blood was drawn by the nurse. Joiner then issued the male citations for DUI, DUI less safe, improper parking, safety belts violation and failure to maintain lane.
The male signed the court copies, and they were left with the booking officer to be placed with the male’s property.
Feb. 26
Just shy of an ounce
Officer Joiner was monitoring traffic on the Northbound Lane of Gray Hwy. when he observed a vehicle with their hazard lights on and going at a slower rate of speed than posted. Joiner ran the tag number through the GCIC system, and it came back to show that the vehicle registration was suspended and also the vehicle currently had no valid insurance.
The officer initiated a traffic stop at that time. Joiner made contact with the female driver and advise the reason for the stop. The female explained to the officer that she did not switch insurance companies and that is possibly why her registration is showing suspended.
While speaking to the female, Joiner noticed she was very nervous and started getting upset. Joiner also had noticed the odor of marijuana while standing next to the vehicle. Officer Joiner had called Sgt. Hathaway to the scene, and he also stated he noticed the smell of marijuana when he arrived and got near the vehicle. The female admitted to marijuana being present in the vehicle, and she was instructed to exit the vehicle at that time. Sgt. Hathaway stood by the female driver while Officer Joiner conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. Joiner found in the front seat area, a white plastic store bag containing three multicolored plastic packages all believed to be marijuana.
Also located with those packages, was a cannabis shop “loyalty card” with all the spots punched out of it. Joiner also found a marijuana joint next to the gear shift. The female explained that the laws are different in Texas as the officer explained it is still illegal in the State of Georgia. Some of the markings on the packaging indicated that the possible marijuana may have originated from Texas. The female driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Jones County LEC. Joiner then went to the Gray PD to weigh the drugs as it appeared close to an ounce. Once the suspected marijuana was weighed the total including the joint came to approximately 27.1 grams, just shy of any ounce. The officer then went back to the LEC and issued the female subject citations for no insurance, suspended registration and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
