The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department May 31 - June 3, 2026
May 31
Frog at large
Officer Joiner was dispatched to a local residence in reference to a complainant needing help.
Dispatch advised Joiner that the complainant stated they needed assistance removing a frog from inside the residence. Joiner arrived on scene and made contact with the female complainant.
The complainant advised Joiner that the frog was contained in the kitchen area. Joiner went into the kitchen, retrieved the frog at large and released him into the wild behind the residence. Officer Joiner also noted “no frogs were harmed during this contact.”
June 2
Wanted person
Deputy Brown was dispatched to a residence in reference to identity theft. While speaking with the complainant, Brown noticed she had her ID in her hand. He asked her for her ID and went to his patrol car and ran the number through GCIC and it came back as wanted. The complainant’s probation officer stated that she did want to place a hold. The complainant was then placed under arrest and transported to the LEC.
Positive for cocaine
Deputy Coley and Schubert arrived at a residence to attempt a warrant service. Coley went to the front door of the residence and witnessed the subject passed out on her sofa. The deputy knocked on the door and asked the subject to come out. She came outside and sat on the front porch while being advised about the valid probation warrant. The subject asked to lock up the residence.
Coley walked inside with her and shined her flashlight to be able to see. The deputy noticed a “crack cocaine type pipe” in an ash tray on the coffee table. When asked about what it was, the subject said she didn’t know who’s it was. Deputy Shubert placed the pipe into an evidence glove. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the LEC. The probation officer requested a drug test and the test was positive for cocaine. Coley advised the jail staff that she would be getting a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
June 3
Path of least resistance Officer Josey responded to a local residence to assist Deputy Tarver with a previous assault.
Upon arrival, Josey learned that Deputy Tarver had enough evidence to conduct an arrest on a male subject. When they arrived on scene, they made contact with the subject. Dep. Tarver advised the male to smoke his last cigarette. As soon as the deputy said that, the male began to take small steps forward looking for the path of least resistance. The male subject then took off running in an attempt to flee from being arrested. While running, the male tripped over a small metal table.
Dep. Tarver was able to stop the subject and pinned him against a nearby wall. Officer Josey then held the male at taser point until Tarver could get the handcuffs placed on him.
No seat belt
Officer Josey was patrolling the area of West Clinton St. when he observed a driver behind the wheel not wearing his seat belt. Josey conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The officer made contact with the male driver and advised him the reason for the stop. The male driver told the officer that he did have his seat belt on and that he just had his shoulder strap under his let to avoid it going against his neck. Josey explained to the male that is not the proper way to wear a safety belt.
Josey then returned to his patrol car and ran the driver’s license through his in-car computer and discovered that the male’s driver’s license was suspended due to child support. Josey returned to the male driver and advised him to exit the vehicle. The male was placed in handcuffs and checked for any weapons or contraband. Josey allowed the male driver to contact a family member to come retrieve the vehicle. Once the vehicle was turned over to a family member, Josey placed the male driver in his patrol vehicle and transported him to the Jones County LEC. Once at the LEC, Josey issued the male a citation for driving while license suspended as well as given a warning for no safety belt. The male was then turned over to jail staff for booking and then to be released on his citation.
