The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department July 16-19, 2026

Wrong tag
Dep. Dominguez was patrolling the area of Shurling Dr. and Stratford Rd. when he received a Flock Camera alert for a vehicle.
The alert showed the tag number on the vehicle was registered to a Dodge Charger Police Edition.
The vehicle on the flock camera was not a Dodge Charger nor a Police Edition vehicle. The deputy proceeded in an attempt to locate the vehicle and found it turning right from Joycliff Rd. to Millerfield Rd. Dominguez proceeded to get behind the vehicle and had Dispatch confirm that the registration for the tag did indeed belong to a Silver Dodge Charger Police Edition, definitely not the vehicle the deputy was looking at. At that time, the deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the male driver. At that time, Corp. Ribeiro arrived on scene to assist. Dominguez explained to the male driver the reason for the stop was because the license plate on his vehicle did not belong on it and the NCIC system showed the vehicle did not have active insurance. The male driver pulled up his insurance information on his cell phone and showed that it was currently insured and active.
Dominguez then asked the male driver if there was anything inside the vehicle that he should know about, and the male stated there was not. The deputy then asked for permission to search the vehicle and the male driver voluntarily gave permission. Dominguez conducted the search and did not locate anything inside the vehicle. After completing the interior search of the vehicle, the deputy asked the male if he happened to have a magnetic storage box attached underneath the vehicle. The male advised that he did have a box underneath the driver’s side of the vehicle and that it did contain a small amount of marijuana. Dominguez retrieved the box containing the marijuana and determined it to be less than one gram. The deputy issued the male driver a citation for possession of marijuana less than one ounce and a citation for displaying a license plate with intent to conceal the identity of the vehicle.

Leaving scene of accident
Dep. Steib was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Monticello Hwy. When the deputy arrived on scene, he observed a vehicle resting in an embankment. Steib made contact with the female passenger of the vehicle and identified her. The deputy asked if she had her driver’s license as he saw it in her hand, however, she advised the license was not hers, that it belonged to the male driver of the vehicle, and the female gave his name. Steib searched the immediate area to see if the male driver had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The female passenger advised the deputy she was not sure where the male driver had gone or what happened to him.
Steib then asked the female what caused the accident. The female advised the deputy that she and the male driver had been traveling from Stone Mountain to Gordon, GA.
She went on to say the male driver had been consuming alcohol prior to driving and then she noticed him repeatedly crossing the center line while driving. The female stated she asked the male driver multiple times to pull over and let her drive, but he refused. The female also said that at one point the male driver pulled over and asked if she did not trust him but continued to drive. The female stated that then the male drove off the roadway causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and come to rest in the embankment and that was the last thing she could remember.
The female continued by stating that the vehicle actually came to rest on its side after the crash but an unknown individual driving a pickup truck stopped after seeing the wreck and pushed the vehicle back onto its tires. Steib asked the female if she had any idea where the male driver could have gone, and the female stated that she heard a passenger-side door open and close and assumed the male driver got into the pickup truck and left the scene. The female also advised that the male driver had just got released from jail on Monday. Steib notified dispatch that the male driver of the overturned vehicle had apparently left the scene of the accident and dispatch came back and advised the deputy that the male driver also had a warrant through Walton County. A search of the surrounding area was conducted, but the male was never located. Based on the investigation, warrants will be sought for leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and additional charges may be pursued pending the outcome of the investigation. The female passenger was evaluated by EMS and transported by ambulance to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
