The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. 17, 2022.

Deputy Harden was assisting with a safety check on Highway 49 when a vehicle stopped for the check and had the odor of marijuana coming from inside. The driver advised Harden that he was on his way to get his license which he left at a friend’s house. The driver also told Harden that he had a picture of his license on his phone. Harden advised the driver to pull off the roadway so his license status could be checked. Once off the roadway, Sgt. Walker was waiting, and the vehicle was checked for weapons. Harden also heard Sgt. Walker ask the driver about the odor of marijuana. The driver admitted there was marijuana in the vehicle and told the officers where it was. Harden searched the vehicle and found the marijuana wrapped in black plastic. At that time, the male subject was placed under arrest and was taken to the Jones County LEC by the transport van.
Deputy Morris was working a license and safety check on Highway 49 when she encountered a vehicle that had the smell of marijuana coming from inside. Morris had the female driver pull to the side of the roadway so she could search the vehicle due to the smell of marijuana. At this time, Morris was advised that the license plate on the vehicle showed suspended registration. Morris began to search the vehicle and on the rear driver’s side seat was a tray with a small amount of marijuana rolled into a cigarette. The majority of the cigarette had already been smoked. The driver advised the deputy that the marijuana did belong to her.
The female was placed under arrest for suspended registration and possession of marijuana less than an ounce. The subject was placed in the transport van and taken to the Jones County LEC.
Deputy Allen was conducting a road check for valid license and insurance when a vehicle approached the check point and had the odor of marijuana coming from inside. Sgt. Walker began speaking to the driver and the occupants and advised them to pull off the roadway at that time. Sgt. Walker asked the driver and occupants to step out of the vehicle so it could be searched due to the marijuana odor. Allen began to search the vehicle and found a small blue wallet and inside the wallet was a small amount of marijuana.
When asked who the wallet belonged to, the female driver advised Allen and Walker it was hers. The female driver was placed under arrest at that time and transported to the Jones County LEC by jail staff on scene. The driver was charged with possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
