The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department June 22-28, 2023.
June 22
Trying to go home
Deputy Sullivan was monitoring traffic in the area of Gray Hwy. and Greenwood Road when he observed a vehicle with no tag lights. At that time, Sullivan initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the male driver and advised him the reason for the stop. While speaking to the driver, Sullivan noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked the driver if he had any marijuana. The male advised the deputy he had just smoked earlier, and there was none inside the vehicle. The male subject also advised the deputy he did not know about his tag light being out, he was justtryingtogohome. Sullivan ran the driver’s license through dispatch, and it came back to show the male’s license were suspended.
Sullivan had the male subject step out of the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs advising he was being placed under arrest for driving on suspended license. The subject was transported to the Jones County LEC where he was issued citations for tag light requirements and suspended license then turned over to jail staff for booking.
June 23
Broken taillight leads to arrest Deputy Sullivan was in the area of the Gray Bypass and Highway 18 West when he observed a vehicle with a broken taillight. Sullivan ran the license plate through the GCIC system, and it came back to show that the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended license. At that time, the deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. When Sullivan made contact with the male driver, the driver advised the deputy he had previously had a wreck and the taillight got broken.
Sullivan then asked the male why his license was suspended, and the male replied that he had no idea why they were suspended. The deputy ran the license number with dispatch, and they confirmed the license had been suspended for child support obligations and failure to appear. The male was then placed in handcuffs and transported to the Jones County LEC where he was issued citations for taillight requirements and suspended license, then turned over to jail staff to be released on tickets.
June 26
It wasn’t change in his front pockets Investigator Hall was traveling on Highway 49 when he observed a male subject that he was very familiar with driving a vehicle. Hall checked the driver’s information via the GCIC/NCIC to see if the male had a valid driver’s license. The information came back to show the male actually had a warrant through Jones County Sheriff’s Dept. for violation of probation. At this time, Hall conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Hall had the male subject step out of the vehicle and placed him under arrest for the warrant. While checking the male’s person, in the change pocket of his pants, Hall found a quantity of methamphetamine.
The male subject was transported to the Jones County LEC and was served his warrant and an additional warrant was secured for possession of methamphetamine.
