The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheri’s Department and Gray Police Department Jan. 12-18, 2024.
Jan. 15
My wife’s car
Sgt. Carr was on routine patrol when he ran a GA tag number on a vehicle to check for valid registration and insurance.
Carr’s in-car computer alerted that the vehicle registration was expired and had no valid insurance. At that time, Carr conducted a traffic stop. When Carr made contact with the male driver, the subject advised Carr that the vehicle did not belong to him, it belonged to his wife, and he was not sure about the insurance. The driver then handed Carr a Georgia identification card instead of a driver’s license. Carr returned to his patrol vehicle and ran the driver’s information through the GCIC/NCIC database, and it came back to show that the male had a suspended license in the state of Georgia.
The Sgt. allowed the male driver to contact his wife and she confirmed there was no insurance on the vehicle. The male subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Jones County LEC. Upon arrival at the LEC, Carr issued the male citations for expired registration and driving on a suspended license.
Suspended license
Deputy Elrod was on assigned shift when his tag reader in his patrol vehicle alerted to a car that indicated the registration and insurance on the vehicle was not valid. Elrod verified the information via the GCIC/ NCIC system, and the result indicated there was no valid insurance, the registration was suspended, and the registered owner had a suspended license.
Elrod activated his blue lights and initiated a traffic stop at that time. When the deputy made contact with the female driver, he confirmed that she was the registered owner of the vehicle.
The female subject was able to verify insurance on the scene.
Elrod issued the female a citation for driving on a suspended license. Sgt. Humphries arrived on scene and transported the female driver to the LEC for booking and she was released on tickets.
Violation of driving permit
Sgt. Carr was on routine patrol when he ran a tag number on a vehicle that was in front of him to check for valid registration and insurance. Carr’s in-car computer alerted that the vehicle had suspended registration and no valid insurance. Carr activated his blue lights and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Carr approached the driver and advised the male subject the reason for the stop.
The male driver advised the Sgt. that he had purchased the vehicle from a friend nearly six months ago and he failed to register the vehicle in his name. Carr asked the male subject about the insurance and the male advised he had not put insurance on the vehicle either. At that time, Carr had the male exit the vehicle and secured him in handcuffs for driving with no insurance.
Carr ran a check on the male in the GCIC/NCIC system, and it came back to show the male had a CP license which requires a licensed driver over the age of 21 to be in the vehicle. The male subject advised Carr he knew he was in violation of his permit. Carr transported the male to the Jones County LEC where he was issued citations for suspended registration, no insurance, unregistered vehicle and violation of driving permit.
The male signed his citations and was turned over to jail staff for booking.
