Crime Watch

The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department April 26 - May 1, 2024.

APRIL 26

Entering auto

Deputy Shurley was dispatched to a residence in reference to an entering auto. Shurley met with the complainant who stated when she went outside, she noticed that her vehicle had been gone through. Items were thrown about inside and money was missing from her wallet. The complainant did not know who would have gone through her vehicle.

APRIL 30

Shoplifting

Deputy Langston was dispatched to a local business for a report of shoplifting. The deputy made contact with the manager who advised that a male and female suspect took some items without paying. The manager showed Langston video footage of the female suspect exiting the store with a two liter drink and a bag of donuts without paying. The female then entered the store again and met with the male suspect and he handed her another two liter drink. The female suspect then exited the building without paying. The female reentered the store and distracted the manager while the male suspect went behind the register and took two packs of cigarettes and put them in his pocket. Langston then went to a residence and made contact with the female suspect. When asked about the incident, she advised that she stole the two drinks and donuts. She stated that she did not know about the cigarettes. The video was shown to her and she advised the food was for their kids. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Jones County jail for booking. A warrant was taken out for both suspects for shoplifting.

MAY 1

Trespassing

Deputy Humphries answered a call from a complainant in reference to trespassing. The complainant reported that this has been an ongoing problem in the neighborhood and this was not the first call that has been made. She reported that three or four teenage boys were trespassing at a pond in the neighborhood and had been fishing. The teenage boys then approached her and trespassed through her yard. She spoke to the boys and let them know they were trespassing and that she was calling law enforcement. The subjects left and went into the woods. The complainant stated that the same group have been trespassing at both ponds in the neighborhood, someone’s pool and bullying younger children. The trespassers were gone upon arrival of the deputy.
