CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAYS
Dames Ferry Elementary School’s first graders had their annual Christmas parade Dec.
15, showing off their creations to the entire school.
Lynsey Mosley, first grade teacher at Dames Ferry Elementary School, said the students were extremely excited to show off the floats they made with their families. She said the other grades enjoy seeing the floats just as much.
“The students were sent home a letter about the Christmas parade, and the students and their families worked together to design and create a float,” she said. “It was just a fun time where the students could show off what they made to all of Dames Ferry.”
Harley Jackson, a firstgrade student, said she likes Christmas a lot. She said on Christmas everyone gets presents, and she likes being with her family during that time. She said the parade was important, because it got to show off a little bit of Christmas.
“There were a lot of people at the parade today, so that’s why we pulled around our little wagons. I helped make mine with my mom. It has a reindeer, Santa, toys, a snowman and a tree on it. It was a lot of fun,” Jackson said.
Bradie Scott, another firstgrade student, said the parade was important, because it showed off everyone’s floats and everyone got to see how different they all were. She said Christmas is important to her, because she gets to spend time with her family and friends.
“My float had a Christmas tree, small presents, bows on the side, and jingle bells. It took a long time to make,” the student said. “I was excited to pull my float around in the parade.
Christmas is Jesus’s birthday, and that’s special.”
The teacher said the parade was important for first grade to do, because it gave them a chance to show off what they created and the hard work they put into their floats. She said the parents were able to visit the school during that time and watch, so it was a special day.
“They were so excited. As the floats came in, they got more and more excited. It’s neat to see what these students have come up with and how their minds work,” she said.
Mosley said her favorite thing about the parade was seeing her students interact with their families and watching them show off what they’ve been doing at Dames Ferry Elementary School. She said she enjoys seeing her students’ faces light up this time of year.
She said the students were also surprised by Santa Claus.
“They are very excited for Christmas. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus came up, read a book to them and they tagged along in our parade,” Mosley said. “They were excited to see Santa, and he made their last day before break even better.
I’m glad they had fun at the Christmas parade.”
