JONES COUNTY LIBRARY
The Jones County Friends of the Library is having their used book sale this upcoming Saturday, July 8, at the Jones County Pre-K in building E for people interested in scoring some summer reads.
Sarah Hancock, president of the Jones County Friends of the Library, said she’s excited for the sale. She said it’s a great opportunity for the community to take part if they like to read.
“Our monthly book sale is coming up on July 8, and we will be here from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We want people to come on out and see what we have,” she said. “There are a lot of books, and you can probably find just about any genre you’re interested in. They’re cheaper than the bookstore.”
She said the book sale the Friends of the Library hold the second Saturday of every month is very important to Jones County, because all of the funds raised through the book sales go to the Jones County Library for their needs. She said they use the money to buy new books and other things that help to keep the library running. She said over the years they have given the library over $20,000.
“The library does so much, and it gets expensive to do some of the things they do for the community. We don’t limit what the library does with the funds. They use it for whatever they need to help Jones County keep coming to the library,” Hancock said.
The president said they are still in need of members to help out with the Jones County Friends of the Library to help sort through books. She said there is a sign up sheet at the Jones County Public Library for those people interested.
“If anyone wants to join the Friends of the Library, we will accept them. We always need help,” the president said. “It’s a good outlet, and we have fun. It’s a lot of work, but it gets you out of your house and doing something for the community. We’d like to have some strong helpers join.”
She said if people in Jones County enjoy reading, they should come out to the used book sale. She said they can get lots of books for a great price, and they sell books in good shape. She said they have fiction, non-fiction, lots of inspirational, Westerns, cookbooks, children’s books, romance, history, gardening, sports, mysteries, and more. She said all books are $1 and under.
Hancock said they would like to see older children at the used book sales, because they have lots of books for that age range, but rarely see middle grades and above show up to take advantage of the sales. She said they even have some free books available.
“We rarely see someone leave without a book. You can travel if you read. You may not leave Jones County, but if you read you can visualize a whole new world,” Hancock said. “That’s important to do, and it’s important for children to read at home this summer.”
