Independence Day celebration set Thursday

The Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce is having its fifth annual Independence Day Extravaganza at the Morris Bank Recreation Complex on Thursday, June 29, starting at 7 p.m., celebrating the country’s independence with the entire community.

Ashley Roberson, Main Street Gray director, said she has been helping the chamber with the event and is excited for it. She said it will be a fun family event.

“The Independence Day Extravaganza will have food trucks that will come out this year, and it will be a good variety of food,” she said. “There will be inflatables, so there will be fun stuff to do for the kids.

Laura Starling will be out doing music, and we will have fireworks as soon as it gets dark. There will be lots for families to do.”

She said the event is a good, family-friendly event for people to be a part of. She said it’s local, and the fireworks are free to see. She said people who live in Jones County don’t have to travel all the way to the lake to see the fireworks and engage in Independence Day fun.

“This is something that brings our community together right here in Jones County. People can stay near home and still make memories with their family and friends.

This has had a good turnout in the past, so I think people will enjoy the evening,” Roberson said.

Chamber chair Amber Ayers said her favorite thing about the Independence Day Extravaganza is seeing the community come together and celebrate the nation’s independence.

She said it’s important for the community to spend time together.

“The event is important to our community because it offers great family fun and it brings people from all over middle Georgia,” she said. “It shows them what Jones County has to offer.

It’s a fun event for the whole family.”

The director said people should bring cash for the food trucks as wifi connection was a problem last year. She said people should also bring chairs to sit in to relax and enjoy the fireworks. She said the only thing people will need to purchase during the Independence Day Extravaganza is food and drinks. Everything else is free.

Roberson said she is excited for the fireworks this year since she’s never seen them. She said she’s always heard great feedback about the event, so she said it should be fun for everyone again. She said Independence Day is important to celebrate with the community and a great time to celebrate all of our freedoms in the country.

“The Jones County Chamber of Commerce has done a great job putting this event together, and their board of directors has worked really hard to make this event happen for the community,” the director said. “I can’t wait to see people out at the event and having fun.”
