The Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Independence Day Extravaganza on Thursday, June 27 at 6 p.m. at Morris Bank Recreation Complex to celebrate independence in a family friendly environment.
Hailey Robinson, executive director of the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce, said she’s looking forward to the event. She said she hopes a lot of people come out like they have in year’s past.
“The Jones County/Gray Chamber is hosting the 2024 Independence Day Extravaganza, and we will have kids’ activities and games, Laura Starling on site to broadcast and we will have food trucks available,” she said. “It will be a good variety of food, and a good time to be had to celebrate Independence Day.”
She said the fireworks will be the big show like they are every year at the Independence Day Extravaganza, and they will start around 9:30 p.m. This is a free community event, so people should come out for the fun. She said people can bring their own fold-up chairs.
Robinson said people should come out and support the local food trucks and businesses who will be at the event. She said it will be a good time to enjoy a summer activity in Gray while celebrating.
“We need events like this in our community, because we need family-friendly events people can come to and have fun. We also have so many of our local businesses and people who help sponsor this event and want to see it. They help make this event happen,” she said.
The director said it’s her first time coordinating the Independence Day Extravaganza. That means she gets to see it from a different perspective this year, but she has enjoyed it. It’s an event people look forward to, and she’s excited to see everything come together.
She said she can’t wait to see everyone at the event, and she feels they are going to have a good time. The Independence Day Extravaganza is a laid back event to just relax at.
“I think as an American it’s important for us to know what Independence Day means, and celebrate it,” the director said. “We should acknowledge the sacrifices made for us and our independence to be able to hold events like this. I hope people will come out and enjoy their freedom.”
