The Jones County High TSA (Technology Student Association) – think ‘engineering club’ – had an awesome showing at the state tournament “Fall Rally” over the weekend (November 11 – 13) in Jekyll Island.
There were three major events that the students competed in: Three students won the Stateman Test award – LaDaniel Daley, Persephone Woodson, and Allison Hanson.
There was also the VEX Robotics competition.
The FIRST time JCH has participated in a VEX competition and they placed FIFTH in the STATE qualifying tournament. This included all the magnet, charter, and private charters – with much more money and experience. The team is so excited. They spent many hours programming and designing and had a unique ‘driving’ strategy that placed thematthetop. Honestly, it is fun to watch teenagers reaction while their boat is sinking (which – with cardboard and water - is a guarantee; the ‘when’ is the question). While the team did not do as well as they would have liked, they had fun.
Due to COVID, the elementary and middle school Science Olympiad Teams never restarted. We are really hoping to spark (re-spark?) interest in the community again.
