Newman Moore is the local veteran of the week. He enlisted in the U.S.
Navy in April of 1943 and was in boot camp at Eglin Air Force Base, four months of electrical school at Morehead State College, and four months of submarine school at New London, Connecticut. He was then sent to Fremantle, Australia, where he was assigned to the submarine USS Bluegill. He was on four war patrols in the South Pacific before the war ended. Moore earned several medals during his time in the service: Asiatic Pacific with two stars, American Area, Victory, Philippine Liberation with two stars, Point System, and Good Conduct. He was discharged as electrician 2nd Class on April 26, 1946.
