Joseph Benjamin Jackson, Jr. is the local veteran of the week. He served in the United States Marine Corps. as a Lance Corp. from 1941 to 1945. After he completed his basic training at Paris Island, SC, he was assigned to the Accounting Dept. at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He requested a transfer to the South Pacific and deployed to Guam Island where he remained until Dec. 1945. He was discharged in California then returned home driving cross-country with his brother Carlton Mobley, who was discharged from the US Navy at the same time.
