LOCAL LITERACY
The Jones County Public Library has activities planned for December, jumping into the Christmas spirit and promoting literacy in a holiday themed way.
Julie King, branch manager of the Jones County Public Library, said she’s excited for all the things the library has planned for the Jones County community this Christmas season.
“This is a magical time of year, and everyone loves Christmas. We just want to make the Jones County Public Library a fun place to come,” she said. “We have a lot of fun displays and lots for children to do here. The kids will be out of school soon, and we want them to come here.”
She said they have started a Coffee Teen Corner session the first and third Thursday of every month from 4 to 5 p.m., Teacher Tuesday’s at 4 p.m. and Wiggle Worms with zero through fiveyear- old’s on Wednesday’s at 10 a.m. She said Dec.
20 they will be doing Christmas crafts at 4 p.m. and Dec. 21 they will have Santa Pete visit at 10 a.m. She said Dec. 17 they will be having their teen program where they watch a movie at 12 p.m.
“We have our Giving Tree, and we’re asking for hats, coats, gloves, and socks to give to the Division of Family and Children Services. People can come into the library and hang them on the tree in the children’s section.
We hope to see more on the tree to give,” King said. The branch manager said children can bring their letters to Santa and put it in the mailbox inside the library sitting on a table. She said those will get to Santa. She said they have a lot of different Christmas and holiday things to do at the library, so people should stop by and see. She said to visit the library’s Facebook page, Jones County Library, for updates.
“We want to keep doing more with our community. We have so much going on,” King said.
“Everything is reading.
If you can’t read, you’re stuck. You have to know how to read and comprehend. We want to help patrons however we can this holiday season.”
The Jones County Public Library always has something going on, and they want even more people to come see them.
She added the staff is always promoting literacy and can recommend books about subjects people are interested in.
She said the library has become a fun place.
“I love Christmas; the wonder of it when the kids come in and see everything is magical. It’s such a wonderful season anyway, but then you add in a place that just makes it even better is just wonderful,” she said.
“We’re happy to show what the Jones County Public Library has to offer this December.”
