An offender attempting to burglarize a local business was nabbed in the process while wearing a jacket from the business.
Marty Wayne Morgan, 38, was arrested Jan. 18 and charged with criminal damage to property (second degree), theft by taking (misdemeanor) and burglary (second degree felony).
A report of the incident by Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Morgan stated he and Deputy David Brown were dispatched to the business on Highway 49 just before 1 a.m., Jan. 18. The officers were informed the burglary was in progress, and the suspect was still in the building. Deputy Morgan said Brown was first on the scene and was holding security at the front of the building when he arrived. The deputy said they entered the building and began clearing it room by room until they heard movement in the rear of the corridor.
The officers made contact with a white male matching the description of the offender seen on the complainant’s security cameras. He was still wearing the company jacket he was seen taking.
Deputy Morgan said the subject was ordered to the ground and taken into custody without incident.
The officer said warrants were taken for the suspect’s arrest, and he was transported to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center.
Brown stood by the scene until the business manager arrived to secure the building.
