Boys soccer wins two, girls split
Jones County’s boys posted a pair of middle school soccer shutouts last week, blanking GMC Prep 2-0 and 3-0 against Byron. John Rackley and Isaac Villarreal scored one goal apiece in the win while against Byron, Villarreal, Gage Pittman and Jacob Watts put goals on the board. Both teams host Crawford County on Thursday.
Jones County split a pair of matches last week on the girls side, dropping a tough 2-1 decision to GMC Prep and beating Byron 9-0.
Emory Sanford got the loan goal against GMC with goals against Byron coming from Sanford who had three – two each by Cari Green and Caroline Rickman – with single goals from Marrissa Moore and Isabella Bodnarchuk. The middle school JV team also beat Peach County 3-2 on Feb. 23.
Clifton Ridge baseball dominating
Clifton Ridge picked up a pair of wins on the baseball diamond last week, taking down Jasper County 14-0 and GMC Prep 11-1. It was Chase Hasty getting the win on the mound against Jasper, going five innings and allowing a hit. MJ Lane pitched four innings against GMC, yielding two hits.
Leading hitters against Jasper were Lane, Micah Howard, Tae Wilson-Goolsby, Avery Gordon and Jay Stinson. Aaron Vaughan, Ethan Jones, Ryder Crumbley, Lane and Cruz Hasty had hits against GMC. Clifton Ridge plays at Lamar County on Thursday with Gray Station going to Jasper County.
