Wreaths across America is a non-profit organization that provides wreaths at a nominal price to be placed on the graves of veterans who served in any American War. The Oliver Morton Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), joined with them this year on December 17, 2022 for a ceremony and placement of wreaths on graves of veterans in Highview Cemetery in Gray. The American Legion, Post 142 and their wives, DAR members and their families, and other community members placed the wreaths on the graves of all known veterans at the cemetery.
The JROTC Color Guard from Jones County High School presented colors and lead in the pledge to the flag. Al McGalliard played the bagpipes. Linda Lancaster, DAR regent, spoke on the purposes and theme of the Wreaths across America. The theme was “We don’t know them all, but we owe them all. Thank a veteran. Thank a military family. Thank a Gold Star family.” Wreaths were placed on 72 graves.
