“His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it.” (John 2:5).
The wedding party had run out of wine. Mary told Jesus.
She was confident in her son, knowing her son is God’s Son.
She had confident faith and in that faith she tells the servants to do as He commands them.
We can be confident in Jesus as our Lord to do right for us. He may not do exactly as we ask, but He will do exactly what is good for us when we come to Him for help. Mary never gave Jesus any specifics as to how to help, never told Him how to resolve the problem. She just presented the problem and left it to Him to work out how the help would come about.
She simply said “They have no wine“, and then told the servants to do as Jesus tells them.
In the KJV, the word “it” in this sentence of verse 5 is in italics, meaning “it” isn’t in the original writings. The KJ translators added “it” to help make sense of the translation, so as to focus on the servants doing the “it” that Jesus would tell them to do. Take the “it” out from Mary’s statement and you have “whatsoever He says unto you, do.”
Whatever Jesus says to you, DO! Doesn’t matter what the it is, whatever Jesus says unto you, DO! Do it right away. Do it quickly. Don’t procrastinate. As Mary had confident faith in God’s Son, you can have the same confidence in Him, in His guidance and wisdom.
Got a problem in life? Go to Jesus and whatever it He tells you to do, DO!
