Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say into thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3).
The term born again is used only twice in the Bible and it’s only Jesus who uses it--Jn 3:3 and Jn 3:7. The term born again simply means saved. But born again offers a more defined explanation of what it means to be saved.
We all are born into this world physically. And we carry the conformities of being born into this world. And we bring the sin nature of the flesh into this world when we are born. The conformities of this world and the sin nature will not be allowed into the Father’s house.
There must be a change in us in order to be a part of God’s kingdom. We must be born again.
This born again is a spiritual birth; born from above. This new birth conforms us to the kingdom of God (Rom 8:29). This new birth gives us a new nature (2 Cor 5:17), crucifying the old nature with Jesus (Rom 6:6). This new birth makes us clean because we are born again through the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin (1 Jn 1:7). This new birth begets us into the family of God (Gal 3:26), just as the earthly birth begets us into our earthly families.
Jesus was not from this earth as we are. He was from above (Jn 8:23).
Being God from above, He needed no born again experience. But we do.
And if we don’t have that born again experience, we won’t be allowed into Heaven. We will not see the kingdom of God.
Jesus was born so we could be born again.
